Steam Deck

Left joystick stuck in down position
Description: The left joystick is stuck in a completely down position. In the Controller Settings menu under the "Test Device Inputs" screen, the left joystick Y variable (second number) is stuck at -32767. The X variable (first number) moves as expected between -32767 and 32767. No matter what user input is provided the Y variable is stuck at -32767.
Steps to create: This issue appeared after performing the latest update from the Stable update channel: Steam Version 1660688177. It first occured in game and I believe it occured while pressing and holding some combination of the quick access button, Steam button, and the left joystick and/or D-pad. I did not immediately recognize that the issue had started so I am not sure what caused it but it appeared to be software triggered as opposed to hardware. To my best recollection, I had been using the quick access button and joystick down to adjust brightness (auto brightness was enabled but I did not know that) and then I believe I clicked and held the Steam button and clicked down on the D-pad. I first noticed the issue because the Steam Button and Quick Access Buttons appeared to stop working. The menus did not launch and would only change the screen brightness. I then noticed the in game character moving without user input. While this could be a hardware failure there were absolutely no signs of the joystick performance degrading and no physical strain on the thumbstick or device. One second the joystick was fully working and the next it was fully stuck at -32767.
Attempts to recover: All attempts to fix the issue have been unsuccessful. I first tried restarting the Deck. Trying to go into desktop mode and stop/start Steam also did not resolve the issue. Calibration from the Steam Deck UI and Steam Client UI show the thumbstick stuck in a down position and did not help resolve the issue. Running 'thumbstick_cal' from the konsole in Desktop mode reports "Error: Left stick calibration invalid." A factory reset also did not fix the issue. I have not tried recovering from SD/USB yet.

This issue may be related to the following post as the Steam button and Quick Access buttons no longer work with the joystick stuck in the down position and instead only change the brightness when pressed: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1675200/discussions/1/3448087385667118434/

Any help would be appreciated.
Is there anything else I can test to confirm if this is a Software Bug or a hardware failure? Is there any other information I can collect and provide that would be helpful to debug the issue?

I got my new Steam Deck yesterday and It has the same problem you describe but with the right joystick instead. I have also tried a factory reset and didn't work. I have had no luck finding any solutions online, so I have opened a Steam Support Request.
Did you manage to fix it?

Unfortunately, it required a replacement joystick for me. Hope this isn't the case for you.

I just got my Steam Deck and have an identical issue to you, as well as the steam and ... buttons not registering at all. Did you end up needing to have to send it in to replace?

Yes, I had to open a Steam Support Request and send it to replace.

I'm having the same issue even trying to replace the thumbstick to Gulikit, left stick stuck down. It worked sometimes earlier but now still having the same issue and I just replaced to gulikit.

Please let me know what worked for you. I already updated the system, tried reseting, factory reset and all online fix but nothing is working

Same as you SharkTank, I bought the gulikit joystick but it did not solve the problem
