Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Unable to disconnect from a Remote Play session without closing the game.
Hi!

Sometimes I like to leave my main computer for a moment and use my Deck to remote into it and continue where I left off without needing to re-open the game. However, the "Exit Game" button, when ending the stream, also closes the game on my desktop.

When a game opens, the UI pops up with "Press Escape to control the stream" or something to that effect. Holding Steam+Left DPad (The Escape button combo)does nothing, and I haven't tried a USB Keyboard (as I should not need to on a portable device). So I am unable to use that UI to disconnect from the stream like I can on a Phone, PC, or other device.

Putting the Deck to sleep is not much of an option, as the stream limits your desktop's refresh rate to 60hz, which is an issue on my 144hz display.

The X button in the Library exhibits the same behavior.

A Disconnect button or access to the Steam Link UI would be great!

You can kick the Steam Deck from games launched through BPM but for some reason that option doesn't exist in the desktop mode overlay UI. And to make things worse, the Steam Deck launches remote play games from the desktop UI with no obvious way to force BPM the same way connected controllers do.

The "easiest" solution I have found to this is to toggle airplane mode on the deck. Agreed there should be a disconnect option though.

I had the same issue. After some experimenting I found a solution. I just hit the power button and put the Steam Deck to sleep. It will disconnect automatically after 10 seconds, leaving the game running on PC. Turning on the Steam Deck will drop you to the launch page, ready to reconnect.

while i hate we don't have a proper solution, as a workaround that's brilliant.

How do you go about doing that? On the steam deck when I remote play to my pc it no longer lets me see the performance overlay and when I press the steam button the screen doesn’t change but I can hear it on the menu so need to memorise when I try to stop remote playing how to exit game. The three dots button also doesn’t show any change it’s like it’s not bringing to the front I guess

You will have to turn off performance overlay to access your steam buttons.

No clue what the name of the button is, but ya know the button, top left of the left joystick, is what you hold for a half second in Steam Link to make the controls show up. Should have a lil circle come up on screen indicating how long to hold it for.

When I put Steam Deck to sleep tha game on my PC closes immediately. Any solution how to make it work like in your situation? I want the game to be still running after I put Steam Deck to sleep and after some time just reconnect and play the game. Or to play the game on PC without relaunching it.
I found that by following the following steps, you can disconnect from a Remote Play sesssion on the Steam Deck:

1. Press the Steam button.

2. Press the Steam button and left on the d-pad at the same time (do not let go of the Steam button).

3. While still holding the Steam button, press and hold left on the d-pad until the Remote Play menu opens.

4. Continue holding the Steam button and use the right trackpad to click "Stop Streaming".

The Remote Play session should quit and the game should still be running. Keep in mind that if you re-connect, the controls will stop working until the game is restarted.
