Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Steam Deck goes black screen when switching to Desktop Mode (after 3.2)
Some background, I was downloading a game to a SD card, I was in main menu. Just selected restart to desktop, then black screen (lit but black). Forced restart pressing the power button, tried again going to desktop, same result.

edit; first try was with HUB connected (not powered one), second try with nothing connected.

edit 2; tried pausing downloads, managed to go desktop mode.

Good luck!

I think this problem has the same root cause as this:

Not exactly the same issue, but I've experienced blank screen when removing a dock from the Steam deck, basically every time, on the latest update version. I would assume the latest update is the cause of some of this, as this did not happen before, however there were other issues prior.

I'm having the same issue. I haven't even hooked it up to any hub. I was downloading games in desktop mode and then it blanked out. I tried hard shutting down and booting back up and it was back to game mode. Tried going back to desktop mode and it won't show anything on my screen again. Even soft restarting doesn't fix the issue. Checked for updates and I'm up to date.

I downloaded and installed an update and the next time I tried to go to desktop it was a black screen and every once in a while an error box would pop up for a split second. I tried restart, complete power down multiple times and nothing worked. I had to do a full factory reset to fix the problem, not happy about that.

Not just an SD card or dock issue. That just happened to me when I was trying to install emu deck. First time it wasn't even a black screen it gave me all these rainbow colored pixelated lines running the whole screen. Did a restart then every time I switched back from desktop mode to game mode it was a black screen. Tapping the power button a couple times seemed to work to get the picture back sometimes, but I just ended up doing a factory reset now it works fine again.

Kept having this issue; I thought it was just me. Definitely a lifesaver, and also laughing at myself right now considering I should've already known how to get to a TTY, since I've used Linux heavily and Steam Deck is a Linux-based system. Thanks for the help!

GUYS! FIRST OF ALL CHECK EVENTUAL PLUGINS UPDATE!!!

I had the same exact issue and after updating decky launcher and reinstall the plugins everything is back to normal. Remenber to first check any update and restart the deck before trying anything with the terminal.
