Extreme System lag at low battery
Anytime I'm playing a game, it could be any game, whether it's a simple game like Life is Strange that doesn't pull on the hardware as much or a heavy-duty game like Dying Light 2 that does pull on the system heavily this issue keeps happening

Every time my battery gets low enough (even before the notification that it's at 10%) but right when the battery symbol turns red, the entire game and whole system start to lag. Even if I connect the charger right then and quit the game, the whole steam deck interface is lagging and moving slowly. The only way I've seen it get fixed is to try and restart and even when I do that, on reopening the steam deck gets stuck on the boot logo and ONLY until I hard press the power button for a few seconds and then click again to startup does it restart normally.

I'm not sure why this keeps happening or what the fix is, but has anyone else faced this issue?

I mean that sounds like its just trying to preserve battery life by entering a power saving mode so that you're less likely to lose progress etc

Smartphones do the same thing

Hmm, yk I considered something like this but is there any way to turn it off or control it? It does more harm than good ngl because the lag never goes away in the game unless I close it anyway. And even then when I close the game, the entire system and UI continue to lag like crazy which doesn't seem right.

I couldn't really find something in the settings that resemble some control over the power save setting that could stop this from happening

Do you know where I could adjust this setting by any chance?

Try looking in the BIOS to see if there are any power saving settings there, i would however not recommend disabling it as it could result in sudden shutdowns losing you progress, which is far more annoying than having to open and close a game once you've found a charger :)

That's the thing, even with a charger it never goes back to not lagging. And when I try to just put it into sleep mode and then reopen it after a few minutes, the whole system lags almost worse. Even just trying to close the game becomes a whole process

They need an update to fix or let us adjust this in the settings asap honestly

sounds like the issue is that when coming out of that power state it fails to revert to normal performance.

first you have to be SURE it is not thermal limit. batteries in low/high state are hot af. check temps.

second, check ur power settings in the deck. not all of them are under the power section.

gl, share results
