No display from Apple Thunderbolt 3 cable (XDR, Studio Display)
Hi there,

Steam Deck works great with the XDR display and connected devices, but not with the included Apple Thunderbolt 3 cable. I seem to get USB control of devices plugged in, but no output on my display. Connecting the device through any non-Apple TB3 cable works like a charm though, no settings or configuration needed.

TB3 cable does also appear to provide a charge to the Deck when connected. What device logs would be useful? I have other, non-Apple devices that work perfectly fine with this cable & display, so seems to be something the Deck is doing differently?

Thanks!

Hi there, since it looks like the non-apple TB3 cables are working (I'm assuming that their passive), the most likely reason that the apple one is not, is because in order to get the full bandwidth at that length they went with an active cable (It has a chip on each end). It is likely that the fw of those chips isn't allowing DP-Alt mode that the SteamDeck uses for display over USB-C.

I was able to find out how to make it work. You just need to get a cable from Amazon.
This: Club 3D 4K 60Hz HDMI to USB Type... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09JSYP8VR?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
And this Thunderbolt cable: Anker Thunderbolt 3.0 Cable 2.3 ft, Supports 100W Charging / 40Gbps Data Transfer USB C to USB C Cable, Ideal for Type-C MacBooks, Dell, iPad Air 4, iPad Pro 2020, Pixel, Hub, Docking, and More https://a.co/d/7M1vEYa it works with steamos and also with windows 11. It doesn’t have audio I’m still working on it but the audio will come out from the steam deck

It can be, also the Apple cable only works with Apple devices. So is not going to work with it. You need to get another thunderbolt cable
