i reported this to steam support...
Go into desktop mode, click extend volume range, set Echo cancel sink to 150% then *select* volume and set that to 100% (note you can select multiple sliders, select volume only).
and volume control on speakers does nothing. games have sound but speaker is stuck at the default volume level.
There's no need to set the echo-cancel-sink to 150%. Instead make sure that it isn't disabled, and is set to 100%, set the speakers also to 100% and then switch back to game mode and the volume control should behave appropriately. We are actively looking into this issue.
It is also worth noting that sometimes we have seen instances of the volume controls not working when there is a 100% cpu load which we are also looking at.
Hope this helps someone having the same issue.
This app can be added as a non-Steam game to access it in Game Mode, but you'll want to have maximised the window in Desktop Mode before.
My issue is similar but my volume down button is inoperable and my volume up button doesn't change the volume to go any higher when it decides to turn the volume down to mute. Tried searching through the settings in desktop mode and steam game mode and can't even disable button controls to allow only volume controle from the slide out menu.
Just wanna fix it to at least be able to use sound or Bluetooth headphones. It's always shutting my sound off completely when the system heats up.
Bro I think you should report this to steam they offered me to send it back to them, they’ll fix it and then send it back. I’ll do it later like I’ve had it planned for a while, so just tell them and they will assist you don’t worry.
System settings
Shortcuts
In the window you will see a category that says applications, and under that a category that says system settings
Under system settings is “audio volume”
You can unselect the shortcut for volume up or down, and add a new custom shortcut
Even though the steam deck is still hammering away on the volume up / down button, nothing is happening.
Thank god cuz I was ready to throw my steam deck at the wall
I've tried this. And even after making sure I apply changes and such. When I go back to gaming mode. The shortcuts are enabled again.
If I go back to desktop mode the buttons are still disabled. But it seems like it doesn't carry over to gaming mode.
