Having the same issue with the official dock, no audio through the TV, no HDMI output option showing up in the source list, all sound is playing through the deck.

In case anyone stumbles across this, I was having the same issue. But I applied the most recent beta branch update, and after rebooting the Steam Deck prompted me to update the firmware on the Dock itself. After updating the Dock firmware, my audio issues went away.

Not sure if there's a way to trigger the Dock firmware update check manually but maybe try rebooting? Or applying the most recent beta branch update?

Even on beta I'm having issues with audio on the official dock. Mine will work for a while then just stop for some reason. It's a bit frustrating to say the least.

This worked for me. You have to manually update the DECK while connected to the DOCK. This will start the process to update the DOCK's firmware. After that HDMI audio will work.

I've also been running into this. Just got my official dock today and installed the firmware update and am running on the Beta client. I'm connected with HDMI to a TV. It will start with audio coming out of the TV and then it will go away after starting an application. I switched over to Desktop mode to experiment a little. From what I can tell there is some issue with detecting audio, for example I will start a YouTube video on Firefox and hear nothing, but if I change the profile for the HDMI output from stereo to 5.1 the audio will pick up. Same goes in reverse. Restart the browser from scratch, open a youtube video, nothing. Switch the audio profile back to stereo and boom I can hear. Its even weirder using the test button in the audio settings. If I have HDMI on the stereo setting and hit test I get the left and right buttons. No matter which one I click, the first one won't make any sound. But the second button I hit I will be able to hear. Its like a delay in detecting that audio is happening. Very strange and frustrating :(

I seem to have fixed my issue, when in desktop mode clicking on the speaker icon it did not show an HDMI audio option. But when I go into the main audio settings for desktop mode and scroll to the bottom, it seemed to be disabled by default. You have the option of stereo, 5.1 and 7.1. I put it to stereo, made it my default device then booted back into steam os and change the audio device to external. Works good now

Did what Pistol recommended and it works, 5.1 surround sound now 👍👍

I moved my hdmi cable from one to another to fix this issue. Did not do the stero setting. If this occurs again I will try that.

Happens irregularly for me too, fixed it by unplugging and replugging the dock cable (at least that time for me).
