Wrong RGB information signal to external display
It seems (some/most) TV's won't detect that the output of the HDMI signal is Limited RGB, while the output is actually Full RGB. Colors are therefore saturated and have crushed blacks. Changing the HDMI setting of the TV to Full RGB, fixes the issue. I tested this with my Sony and LG. My TV also won't detect it as an game device. I guess this information is missing to from the signal?

Also a good measuring tool is at looking at settings --> Display --> Nightmode --> Look at the grey scale. The two left blocks should be a different color, if not = wrong RGB setting.

This occurs with both my official Steam Deck Dock, as my cheap dock.

p.s. seems I am not the only one: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1675200/discussions/0/3319737272513115983/ But strange that this bug is only noticed now.

To illustrate the issue I made some pictures:
TV set to Auto mode = Wrong, look at the two black blocks. One should be lighter.

TV set to Full RGB = Correct, look at the two left black blocks. One is a bit brighter.

I also made an Reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/y3r3ys/change_your_rgbrange_setting_on_your_tv_always/) post for this, to help people with this issue. It seems more people thought it looked off when connected to the TV. But more people had issues determining the correct setting. If it's not possible to fix this by an update, maybe add a disclaimer?

Ywou should change the input on your LG to PC mode. You can do this by renaming the input to PC. That is the only way on LG TV's. This guy made a full step tutorial in my reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/y3r3ys/comment/isdgryt/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

Hitting the input button on your remote

Go to the left box, 'Home Dashboard'

Click the 3 dots in the upper right corner

Click the first option, 'Edit'

Click 'Edit Inputs'

Now, go down to whichever input your Steam Deck is connected to, and click the icon next to the input name (usually an HDMI icon, or controller icon for a game system)

Select PC from the list, and you're done

While this may be a functional workaround, this is a non-starter for people using an AVR to control which HDMI device is being output to the TV. I'd have to run a separate HDMI cable from the deck dock to the TV in order to have different TV settings just for the deck - and then I'd have to use HDMI-ARC to get the audio back down to my AVR, which can induce some latency.

I'm facing the same issue. Would be nice if this could be fixed by Valve, without having to manually changing the setting on the TV.

Still not fixed with the latest update. I tried XRANDR but it's not reporting an option for color space. I assume either because my TV doesn't support multiple modes or the deck doesn't have the correct driver implementation (I'm not sure if the options are upstream, downstream, or both).

My Switch, Xbox, and Laptop all have the ability to set limited RGB, a bummer the steam deck doesn't.

Same and my tv doesnt have an option in the settings to select the rgb mode manually.

i would love a fix for this, as i have a dock but cant use it.

I have the same problem. Can't override the setting my TV detects. It makes it really hard to play King's Quest.

Although a option might help. I'd rather see the Steam Deck use the output correctly.

Been haing same issue with my Samsung TV. No easy adjustment of picture settings to compensate for the saturation. Plus i cant save any input set up as I also have the detect issue where Steamdeck dock not detected intermittently (only way to get it to work is remove power cable from dock). I would love to see an RGB output setting

Try to google for it: https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffab&q=samsung+change+to+full+rgb&atb=v309-1&ia=web For example look at the low/high black level setting: https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/tv/rgb-limited-vs-rgb-full-samsung-tv/td-p/607842

Some TV's have this option hidden away. Try to search the web for: <TV-model> change to full rgb. If you find a solution, tell me I will add it to my reddit thread.

Same problem as I use an older TV that of course doesn't have any options to force Full RGB (tbh I'm not even sure it supports Full RGB). I'm shocked Valve has not done anything about this even so much as adding a way to force the deck to output Limited RGB. Pretty sure many other consoles do that...

My ancient 1080p Hisense from 2013 doesn't have the ability to toggle RGB. After playing for about 10 minutes or so it gives me a headache. TV works great in all other aspects and surprisingly think it'll last till 8k becomes standard.

Valve if you could release a toggle for the Steam Dock that would be awesome!

SteamOS 3.4.6 has not fixed this.

Has anyone opened a support ticket for it yet? I was having this with a Steam Deck from a friend. Maybe someone that owns a Steam Deck can open a support request.

I suppose the team is aware of topics in this specific sub-forum, however I might as well open a bug report from within the SD

Even though the problem is with the decks display drivers, it might be worth also doing the same in the Steam Deck Dock community, since this discussion is about connecting to TV's

I have this issue too on an LG C1. Resolution is set to 1920x1080@120Hz, and I have to change the range setting on the TV. Don't have this issue with my Windows PC. Simple fix if you can change it on your TV, but it would be nice for this to be addressed by Valve.
