No buttons working at all! Brand new SteamDeck fresh out the box.
Only, volume and power button work. Touch screen works fine. Can't do anything with bios or firmware update as buttons don't work at all.

when you first get the steam deck the first thing you want to do is fully power it, you want to make sure that it knows to get out of 'shipping mode'.

Once it is fully charged, full power off (if it was on) and start. (some more intelligent/diligent users here will tell you to reset the battery at this point just in case but I think you should cross that bridge only if you need to) run the install/setup through the gaming mode and once it is done, go into desktop mode and launch Steam.

observe and report

you should have full controls in gaming mode and in desktop (as long as Steam is open)

So it's common for no buttons to work and only touch screen, volume, and power because the device is in "shipping mode"? Is there a way to check to see if I'm indeed in shipping mode?

Furthermore, how is a battery reset done?

100% charged, restarted nothing

Same issue here but it is only the left side of the controls, everything on the right side works. I opened a ticket with steam support.

I had this problem after I upgraded my SSD. Went to install the image and only touch worked.

I muddled my way through the install process with the touch screen and did a system update. Once that was done I had full access to my controls again.
