Massive amount of storage taken by 'other'
My 64gb Deck is almost full due to 'other' tab. This is because the Deck will not actually install shader caches or compatibility files to wherever the game is installed if it's on an SD card. This is a BIG problem for 64gb owners like myself and needs to be an option.

What is "massive amount of storage"? Can you quantify this?

At least half of the partition, which is only 46gb. I have 10 or so games installed and more than half of that is taken by ‘Other’, which is a mix of shader caches and compatibility files. I should also mention that my SD card is 1tb, so I should be able to store probably 50+ games, but I’m limited to less than 20 due to the aforementioned files.

I got 20GB used up this way on my Deck as well so we've at least confirmed for this to work the same on all models. Clearly though, this affects the low-tier model especially.

Yep. I’ve seen some threads about this issue and currently the only way to circumvent it is to move the shader cache and compatibility folders to your SD card and symlink them to the original directory. Some say this works fine, but in my experience it has broken lots of things, such as controller support, in game cutscenes, and some games just refuse to launch at all. I’ve factory reset my Deck about 10 times testing various ways to go about this and have yet to find a solution that doesn’t just eat all my storage.

You can use CryoUtilities to relocate where the shaders are installed to where the game is installed (i.e. SD card):

I have for the second time now an internal hd which has 17GB games and 27 GB „other“ and a sd card with 160 GB games and 61 GB „other“.
The only thing which helped me the first time was doing a factory reset and reformating the sd card.
Of course after that I had to reinstall all my games.
SUPER ANNOYING.
but I fear I have to day it again :(

I have 1tb ssd and 400gb "other". There's a youtube video that tells me about it being uninstalled games data and failed data.. I'm shocked Valve isn't giving me a way to clear this junk with a button press without having to go to desktop mode and individually find the files I need to delete via mattching codes to games ec.

That part of the beauty of using a community driven OS platform. You don't have to wait for a single entity to provide.

Take a look at this Decky Loader plugin:

The real problem is that shader files will not be deleted with uninstalled games.
Valve know this weird fact and every system would delete the whole game.
But the steam deck is a special device nobody understands.
Dont hope it will be fixed after two years.
