Steam Deck
SteamOS Game Mode has issues with Apple AirPods Pro 2, regardless of Steam Deck, on random Steam-owned titles.
I've encountered a bug where the Apple AirPods Pro 2 fail to pass through audio from the Steam Deck's Game Mode on random titles consistently.

They are connected via Bluetooth, and are not paired with any other devices.

On Desktop Mode, the headphones appear as connected, and I can hear all system noises, browser noises (I.E. YouTube videos), emulated game audio, non-Steam-owned game audio, and Steam-owned game audio perfectly fine.

When I transition to Game Mode, I can hear all system noises, emulated game audio, and non-Steam-owned game audio absolutely fine, however when I boot one of the following titles...

- Crash Bandicoot: NSane Trilogy
- Bugsnax
- Final Fantasy I Pixel Remaster
- The Binding of Issac: Rebirth

...The audio seems to 'crash', leading to total audio loss through the AirPods Pro 2, even in other titles or in the system sounds. The headphones are still connected, and appear as connected in the Bluetooth settings page.

Audio does, however, work fine for other Steam-owned titles, and on my Fiance's Steam Deck.

The only 'fix' for this that I've found so far is to disable Bluetooth after the issue occurs, and then re-enable it with the game still open, which can be a bit of a pain.

Is this an issue with Bluetooth 5.3? Or with the codecs on the AirPods?

The AirPods Pro 2 work fine on the switch, hopefully this is resolved by the time I finish TOTK.
Having the issue as well. It sucks cause they’re convenient, but they just drop and I have to fiddle around with pairing and unpairing only for it to drop off again.
Going to bump this, as I’m also having this issue
Same issue.. can’t believe valve didn’t fix this… the issue is already known since last year..
i am having the same problems
Any update on this?

Is the airpod issue related to this bug? You guys need to post some logs.

a2dp: Invalidate cache if SetConfiguration fails If SetConfiguration fails with Unsupported Configuration it might indicate that either the capabilities stored are incorrect or the seid may have changed, so this attempt to invalidate the remote seps loaded from cache when that happens so the next time there is an attempt to discover this will force Get(All)Capabilities to be called and cause the cache to be updated. One identified issue.

As deaddoof mentioned above, the only way to fix this issue is to signal this problems + provide logs to Bluez, which is the most probable culprit in the bluetooth audio stack.

It might get fixed by someone else reporting this to Bluez, but if you want it fixed, the only way is to get a packet capture of the issue and send it with logs to the Bluez maintainers.

Marco.
I am having this same issue. My AirPods Pro 2nd gen will connect with the Deck, then after about 30 minutes, the sound drops and I have to disconnect/reconnect them. I have a pair of AirPods Pro 1st gen and they connect and have no issues after hours.
This one helped me https://superuser.com/a/1533067, only thing that I used Kate for editing instead of vi, so you don't need sudo. Just do Kate /etc/....

I will have to try for an extended amount of time later, but at least initially, this appears to have worked. Thank you stranger!
I haven’t seen this exact solution, so I thought I’d post here after having success. The method editing main.conf didn’t fix it for me, but I did not revert that change after making it, so I cannot be sure it didn’t contribute to solution. Here are the next steps that fixed the issue for me:

Go into desktop mode. Open the System Settings and click on Bluetooth. If your AirPods are already paired, left click on them and select “forget device”, and pair your AirPods again. Now click on Audio in the left menu, and under the AirPods device (which should say something like, “Headphones (AirPods Pro),”) click on profile and select, “High Fidelity Playback (A2DP Sink, Codec AAC)”.

After doing this, my AirPods are working perfectly on my Steam Deck in both Desktop mode and Game mode.
No solutions still? Whenever I use my AirPods the audio cuts out and glitches often.
