Steam Deck

Left trigger feels a little bit mushy or sticky
I received my Steam Deck a fortnight ago.

Problem:

Left trigger fells a little mushy (maybe rubbing against something), at about an input value of 28000, full press is 32767. Holding it close to my ear, I also hear a rubbing noise in this zone. Feels a little sticky when released. It also makes the force feedback feels a bit different (stronger). I didn't notice it at first. I would say it is at the limit of acceptance. But of course I wonder if it will get worse.

Has anyone else had this experience and can say something about it?

iirc there was a recent thread describing the same issue, where someone mentioned a setting that once disabled simply fixed this... i think it was something to disable force feedback entirely, but i can't recall the details

try searching for the relevant keywords in the forum, shouldn't be too hard to find

Disabling force feedback definitely doesn't fix the problem.

It's rubbing against the shell. My Deck also has this issue. This is my second RMA (third Deck), so I'm just going to deal with it, but it's definitely annoying.

Yes, that was exactly the reason with my unit. I have RMAed it.

Was it fixed? Did they send one without a mushy?

Hey there, not sure if the issue is the same for you but some how while I was playing my deck this same issue started happening to me as well but for my Right Trigger (R2). I was barely registering 23000 when full pressed. I believe since the triggers are so loose and wiggle around a bit it caught it's self on one of the tab's that hold the rear case on. It bent the tab down and that was what was blocking the trigger. I wasn't willing to wait for a return so I had taken it apart my self to inspect the problem. It was an easy fix, simply bend it back straight. Hope this helps. If not while searching for similar issues my self I noticed you can calibrate your triggers in Konsol on Desktop mode. So maybe you can set the max pull to what it is stuck at now if you wanted to?

Yes, they did and this new deck has been running flawlessly for over a year. I had ordered another one that had the same problem. It was repaired via RMA and has been running without problems ever since.

This is really about the trigger rubbing against the housing. You can see the scratch marks if you look closely. I think it's a problem with the assembly. Maybe because a screw is too tight or not tight enough. I'm sure you can fix it yourself. But what's the point if you still have a guarantee? And I've only had good experiences with Valve's RMA process so far.

I have a similiar Problem, but not scratching. It's more like the triggern has too much space with a "doubleclick". The right trigger doesn't have that. On monday i send it to get it repaired. I hope everything will be fine then

I had another issue with mine, sent it in for rma and then got one back with this issue. After getting it replaced, the third one also has the issue. This is so frustrating.

I started encountering this issue with my Steam Deck - left trigger button. Here is what is happening:

The trigger does not properly maintain center and this appears to be a fundamental design defect. Over time, depending on how you hold your Steam Deck, you gradually pull/shift the trigger inward away from it's natural center. Eventually, it shifts enough that the plastic of the trigger starts rubbing/catching on the plastic casing.

The good news is there is a temporary and repeatable fix.

Simply pull the trigger VERY HARD sideways towards the outside edge of the Steam Deck, wiggling as much as you can as you go. This will put a gap back between the trigger and the part of the case it's grinding against.

Unfortunately, I don't have a permanent fix... but when you feel the trigger grinding, this will get it smooth operational again for a good long while, at least.
R2 hard press
