Steam Deck refuses to accept correct password for wifi + account password bug
Yesterday at the same time, Steam Deck both refused to accept my wifi password AND at the same time after rebooting (to see if it would fix it) it would refuse to log in saying "password incorrect". It still refuses to accept the password to this wifi accesspoint even though all my devices connect to it just fine with the same password.

Note: the Steam Deck accepted this password for several days until it suddenly stopped working.

Hi Majestic.

If you switch to Desktop mode does the connection work correctly? What type of security is your network using (WEP/WPA/WPA2/etc)?

WPA2/3 personal

I reset my router and tried multiple different passwords

1) if you still haven't used it, you have nothing to loose... you can factory reset it (there is a power+volume key combo or something similar, for that)

2) pay extra attention to the wifi configs... if your wifi has a hidden ssid, either unhide it or make sure to mark that checkbox when adding the new connection

3) again from desktop mode if you manage to reach it, enable Developer Mode and then from Steam Settings there will be a Developer tab with more configs... one is for disabling wifi power saving

(2) and (3) are common fixes for very common wifi instabilities, that might be behind both reported issues (failed wifi connection and failed password auth)

Thank you for your suggestions and I tried them all.

I used the USB Factory reset and did a re-image thru the boat loader.
There is no hidden wifi and I already had the wifi power saving disabled.

In desktop mode and in steam mode it will not connect and I receive an error.

After trying for a day I decided to unplug the access point. All my other devices worked fine but my AP may have blocked the Steam Deck as a safety measure. Considering something got corrupted since my password all stopped working, it's possible it sent out some dubious data to the AP which may have seen it as an attack of some sorts. Rebooting it made it be able to connect again with the Steam Deck.

I mainly wanted to report the issue because it points towards something causing passwords to become corrupt.

I stumbled on this thread as I was having the same problem with my SteamDeck today. I tried rebooting my router and my steamdeck and neither resolved the problem, I was entering what I knew to be the correct password and it just kept saying failed password. What finally fixed it was selecting "forget this network" on the steamdeck, then reconnecting. It worked fine after that.

Same problem here. I made a guest network with no password and that connects.

Do you have any non-alpha-numeric characters in your passwords?
