The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition not working
https://store.steampowered.com/app/32360/The_Secret_of_Monkey_Island_Special_Edition/

It just crashes back to the dashboard, like this:

I tried uninstalling, tried stable and beta channel, tried Proton Experimental and Proton 7.
Tried on internal drive and on SD card.

I have a friend who has a Deck and it works for him without a hitch.

IIRC, you need to edit the config manually for your screen, I had to do this for my G9 monitor, I imagine the cloud is importing the settings for another machine you have played it on?

info in there, basically find where it is installed and edit the .ini to reflect the actual screen res of the Deck. (1280 x 800)

It worked, thanks! It was enough to run the game on my PC, change res to 1280x800, this uploaded to the cloud and I could run it on the Deck.
If Valve marks the game as playable they should have accounted for that scenario and not download the ini file, or something. Worst part is that there is zero information as to why the game crashes.
FYI: there is an alternative game engine that works perfectly for hundreds of point&click games called ScummVM...

the Monkey Island franchise (and actually all of Lucas Arts Point&Clicks) are well supported since ages ago

it's free, opensource, has versions for windows, linux, mac, android, iOS and more... and is wuite easy to use, just install, run and point towards the game's main folder so it recognizes the supported game

and there is a version of it that is specially built to better integrate to Steam, called "Roberta":
https://github.com/dreamer/roberta#roberta

It's easy to install, basically unpack files to a specific folder and reboot, then reboot for Steam to.detect it, then for supported games go into game properties and choose Roberta as the compatibility layer

I appreciate the answer as I plan to install SCUMMVM on my Deck, but please check again what game my issue is regarding.
If I'm not mistaken, the special edition is still usable (but only with the old graphics) via ScummVM

I found that file, I changed resolution, but nothing :( Game just blinks for a sec and crashes immediately, same thing for part 2. I even tried it running on PC and do that trick with cloud save. Any other ideas? Please help :(

Please help, I absolutely cant get i working on my steam deck. tried to run it in windows and change resolution, I even tried to install ScummVM and use Roberta as compatibility tool. Noting works, always crashes after a few seconds. Any other ideas... BTW, I cant find the .ini anywhere, can you give me some hints, please

Well now I got it working by finding the above mentioned DLL file and copying it into the App folder. But one little issue remains: There is no music… The speech works but not the music. On Windows both works. Any ideas?
