Steam Deck
Crackling audio at random times
I've had an issue with getting random crackling noise from my Deck. It first happened literally when I turned it on for the first time and the initial opening jingle came out all crackly.

It seems to happen randomly but particularly when playing Elden Ring, although I have noticed in other games too. My initial thought was that the speakers were defective but it happens when I have headphones connected to it too.

I've tried searching to see if other people are having a similar issue but I'm not finding much, which makes me wonder if my unit is defective and needs to get RMA'd.

Any thoughts?

I'm having the issue in No Man's Sky. It's pretty consistent and happens at a steady rate. Probably every second or so, but it could just be based on the ambient sound/music at the time.
Experiencing this in Sekiro on a pretty regular basis (e.g., once every 5 or so hours of play time).
when i play i hear a popping sound here and their and i'm using the decks speakers on default anyone know why and are they fixing this issue
Moved to the beta branch and it seems to be happening considerably less. Anyone else tried that and had similar results?
are they even going to fix this audio popping and crackling like come on valve fix this problem now
should i factory reset my deck to fix it
i noticed it happened when i played lego star wars skywalker when shooting or being idle i hear a pop sound i hope its not a physical problem cause how would they send something without testing it
ok also i did email them and they ask is it speakers / bluetooth / 3.5 jack but ok i wont worry like you said also whats with the battery sometimes not going to 100 does it need to reach under 80 percent to charge to 100
I've had the same issues with crackling sound in various games for what i wanna say the last 2 months now? I thought it was the dock i was using or my hdmi cable, but it happens in handheld mode too and I've replaced the dock and cable. Issue still ongoing. It's just kind of irritating...
it happened to me on lego star wars skywalker but not in one other game i used i told them and they said they would tell the devs or change the verified about it for the game so its seems to just the software
I have a similiar problem.

We have identified the issue with crackling audio coming out of suspend, and are working on implementing the fix into a future OS build. In the meantime suspending and resuming again can often fix the issue.
Issue still occurs, but only seems to happen out of my left speaker and suspending the system doesn't seem to fix it. Doesn't happen all the time and with every game, but I've noticed it happening quite a lot while playing Batman Arkham Origins. While in combat and in cutscenes. Can get quite annoying cause it makes me think I have a blown speaker.

We're continually looking into these types of issues, if you could reply with the specific games that you tend to experience this with that will help. For the titles without suspending first, can you turn on performance overlay and see if the audio crackle lines up with any CPU/GPU clock lowering?
I’ve noticed this is an issue with high volume on some games.
If you max out the volume from in-game and on the Steam Deck, you can sometimes experience audio popping on some games like Rain World and CarX Drift Racing Online.
I get this occasionally.
Seems completely random when it happens. It seems to be related to the steam UI in some way.
