High-pitch/whine fan noise

I'm not sure if the poor microphone of my phone demonstrates it well, but the issue is really bad. My deck is very audible, with a high-pitch whine noise that drives me nuts and even woke up my wife when I tried playing in bed (which was supposed to be my main use case).
I hope I'm unlucky and I got a defective unit because this level/type of noise is unacceptable for me.
It's hartbreaking, because apart from this one issue this is a truly fantastic device!

It's hard to judge the actual noise level of your unit, due to the nature of recording and playback. I have to crank the volume a good deal above my normal levels to hear your recording, but then it also sounds a good deal worse than my own unit.

The fact of the matter is that every Steam Deck sounds more like a laptop than a Switch. It's the most disappointing/annoying issue with the device.

I don't mind my unit if I crank the speakers a bit or if I play with my open back headphones at just modest volume. I would not use the unit next to a resting/sleeping person though. The noise/whine is just a bit too much for that.

sounds pretty normal. you are pulling 25W after all. Lower resolution, set fps to 30 and turn on FSR and it should calm down.

Someone found out a quick and easy fix for the whiny Delta fan:
https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/uckns3/how_i_fixed_my_whiny_delta_fan_with_electrical/

All you need is common electrical tape, and it doesn't harm thermals in any way!

Valve themselves started shipping new units with a similar fix (engineered foam).
