For me the "G" is highlighted by default, since it's the cursor placed in the middle of the keyboard that can be moved with the left stick or d-pad and pressed with the 'A' button. Once typing with touch, the 'G' key is no longer highlighted.
When using the trackpads it does disappear, as this also stops that other input.
I'd recommend enabling Trigger Clicks and practicing with this input, you can get faster and more consistent with it than with touch.
This is my preference though and the key selection IMO should be hidden when using the touch, but having g selected when the keyboard opens makes sense.
I wish it disappeared when using touch screen or trackpad for entry. It momentarily goes away but comes back the instant you let off of the controlls.
Should disable joystick/dpad entry once touchscreen/pads are used until the next joystick/dpad input.
