Steam Deck

Slight drift on right joystick after light use
Hey,

The problem

So I've been playing just a little bit on the Steam deck today and started experiencing slight drift on my right joystick when moving it to the left and somewhat slowly letting it go back to it's resting position. In-game this is not that noticeable as it requires a heavier input for the games I'm playing now but it does show up in the controller input test. I've looked for the dead-zone calibration settings but I can't find it in the controller settings menu and the quick menu while playing a game.

workaround to get input back to 0,0

I can get rid of the drift by moving the joystick up, right, and sometimes down. Joystick up, right and bottom right do not create drift when it goes back to the center.

Temporary solution by increasing deadzone

Only way I can currently enable deadzone on this 'controller' is by

1) Launching my steam deck in desktop mode
2) Opening the steam application and clicking the big screen picture in the top right corner
3. Going into settings
4) Going into Controller settings
5) Clicking on the detected controller
6) Going into calilbrate
7) Increase right stick deadzone to this level | imgur.com/a/OZygygZ
8) Reboot system

Videos showing the issue and its by-products

Video of the drift: https://youtu.be/H3H_9LrQ_GA

Video showing it in a game where the right joystick is set to mouse input: https://youtu.be/_ruCSbth50U

A by-product of this is that the 'steam' button doesn't always register as a button press but rather as a shortcut and it moves the cursor over the screen as shown here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_iKiEg5fzM

I hope this can be fixed

there has been 4 instances of the right joystick having drift so far... which is slightly concerning but i bet it'll be fixed in no time.

Yep same issue here, only the right joystick. (like I've already mentioned on your Reddit post :smileyflag:). I had to make the deadzone 3 "levels" higher (moving the slider 3 points to the right) then default to get rid of the drift effects in-game. I also noticed that the right stick sounds a bit more "crunchy" when moving it around then the left stick.

sounds like there's something stuck in your right thumbstick possibly.
