Adding a custom resolution (WORKAROUND)
I have this weird problem of only being able to use 1920 x 1080 while docked on a 2k monitor in desktop mode so I followed this tutorial on how to add it manually.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkzrQqT_lFI

The commands I ran.

xrandr --newmode "2560x1440_60.00" 312.25 2560 2752 3024 3488 1440 1443 1448 1493 -hsync +vsync

xrandr --addmode DisplayPort-0 "2560x1440_60.00"

If you mess it up, you can navigate to /home/deck/.local/share/kscreen/

delete everything and restart. Hope this helps someone.

tried doing that but the files under .local/share/kscreen/ didn't change at all. do you have any tips?

are you able to add the custom resolutions at all? if you want to start fresh, I would go into kscreen and delete all the files. Reboot, then try adding the resolution.

thanks. so the resolutions get picked up inside SOME games, but not all. but that's *within the game*. but often i'd like to use the drop down in the game properties where you can force a specific resolution. and that popup doesn't get updated. i think it probably stores its information somewhere else. do you know how to affect that part of steam?

Are you having a specific issue?

yes, i upgraded my deck with a DeckHD (a screen that's 1920x1200) and i'd like resolutions native to this screen to be available in the drop down menu i discussed above. one specific resolution i want to add is 960x600, which will result in 2x integer scaling. i can get it to work in some games, but having that resolution in the drop down would really help to make ALL games accept that resolution.

Oh ok. Have you tried reaching out to DeckHD? They have a discord that would probably help.

yes, I have tried that.

It's wierd that only certain games detect the resolution change. Is there a specific game that you're trying to play that has a resolution problem?

BG3 specifically doesn't see 960x600. i reported it as a bug, but i haven't been combing through my library to see if any others don't support it. i've tried maybe 10 games so far.

(tbh i don't know what the best place is to report BG3 bugs so i reported it on their weekly post-launch feedback reddit thread)

I've found another game that doesn't do 960x600, Life Is Strange Remastered

What's the native resolution on your new screen? And damn that sucks. Do you play docked at all?

native is 1920x1200

i use a dock for charging and internet, it has DP out but i don't use an external monitor.
