Then there was a prompt to update the firmware. Once I accepted that and rebooted, the static no longer was there.
Check the system update and see if you get the prompt.

Did your Steam Deck OLED ship with 3.5.5? I thought people were showing the OLED models shipped with 3.5.6; and the latest recovery image looks to be for 3.5.6 (I haven't personally used it yet to see if it is actually as named or not).
If so, you have the most spread bug of the 3.5.5/3.5.6 wich can cause also the audio cracking.
I’m pretty sure you’re on the money. In-game where I can better see the overlay refresh per second, the GPU was constantly switching between 200 and 1040 MHz. Outside of game in main menu, locking GPU Clock to 200 MHz completely reduced to audible hiss!
Yeah, it looked like that.
report it there and there please, because if its happening to the new oled owners.too, its going to be a disaster XD:

Edit: The only way I can get audio is when I use headphone or speaker. But going to back to Steam Deck Oled audio it doesn't work still. My other LCD Steam Deck work fine.
Same boat. My OLED has this static sound while on the Home Screen. Checked my regular Deck and it’s non existent. Either a bug or an audio issue.
