Limited Edition Oled steam deck

I tried from 1:00 till 1:38 to purchase this on my account and kept getting stuck on shipping and payment information till it was sold out and I’m pissed…the absolute second it was available I tried to purchase this.

In my area the purchase button became active about 2 to 3 minutes before the 1pm EST time. I started my purchase immediately ... with exactly the same result as you.

If you know your product is going to be in this kind of demand, set up a process to ensure "real" people can buy it and not bots doing auto bulk buys for people who are just going to be reselling them for profit. If you don't believe this is the case, all you have to do is check the major market seller sites and you will see these decks going for more money ...

I count at least 180 for sale on eBay. That's low hanging fruit. $1500 to $2500 CDN. that is: most of double to triple the price. I sincerely hope that people don't reward this, but whatever. I was willing to pay Valve's meager premium, but fsck their noise. I'll customize my OLED deck later.

I also began trying the moment they went on sale. Had the same issue with getting stuck and it eventually said that the item in my cart was out of stock. But then 5 minutes later I was able to add the LE to my cart and checked out without an issue. The transaction was completed at 10:31am so it took me 31 minutes.

I think they are putting them out there in batches rather than all at once. I got this also but kept trying and got one. I’d keep trying!

I think you are right, I'm also starting to think this limited line isn't that limited.

I took a break after getting similar error messages as everyone else at 10 PST this morning. Gave up, and came back at 130 CST/1130 PST and tried on the limited edition again. Went through with no problem.

Agree releasing in batches. was 1 - 2 weeks at the kickoff and now 2 - 4.

Update: Now says shipping and I got a tracking number too 1 day from order. So won’t be waiting 2-4 weeks I guess.

I think you are right, I'm also starting to think this limited line isn't that limited.

They might just have a specific amount to produce then they will not do more accordingly to the demand.

Probably too early to say, but given the staggered availability over the last 2 hours, I'm starting to think it's purposeful on Valve's part to prevent the worst of the bots.

I think we're probably the ones bogging things down the most. And that's a good thing.

Yeah mine just gave me a vague “you’ll get it eventually” but that’s fine, I know I got one coming.

I kinda wonder if Valve has a bunch of the LE parts and they were just moving over non LE decks to to the pile and letting more sell. Screw the scalpers? Maybe.

The most effective way to inhibit scalpers is to hit them in the wallet. Remember Gabe saying that Piracy was primarily a customer service problem? Unusual bit of understanding there.

Do you, the Steam Deck faithful care weather .1%, 1% or 10% of people get the limited edition? If you're a scalper, yes, otherwise not-so-much.

Nah, I think when you add to cart it puts a short hold on inventory; then when you got the errors failing to purchase the holds were still there but you tried to reload your cart and add it again, etc. As well as people with multiple carts open (e.g. via multiple browser windows, etc.) trying to just get an order to go through. I think the showing out of stock, and then refreshing and showing back in-stock is from them validating orders and clearing duplicate holds.

But now, I think a bunch of people who were trying to get an LE once they started getting the "item in your cart is out of stock" error message they scrambled to try to get an order in for one of the regular Steam Deck OLED models which they were able to get though. So now they can't order an LE because of the 1 order per customer per week. I saw at least a few people on here mention they specifically did this.

I did have the “opportunity” to purchase the second round but I was so upset over one of the error messages telling me I’ve made too many purchase attempts and that I had to wait and try again…thinking to myself this thing is selling out now and they have the nerve to tell me to wait and try again. I’m a stubborn sob, so after that I said hell with it ♥♥♥♥ them I’ll buy myself a new Oled Alienware curved monitor for around the same price (with Black Friday discount) instead. Guess I’ll stick with the original 512 version that I had to wait a year for because of the same situation. Sorry Steam not playing that game again!

Bought original deck on launch and sold immediately for same price as just didn't cut the mustard tbh... I'm a sucka early adopter lol
However wanted give it another chance with refresh & cant even buy limited edition model in UK so it's a no from me for OLED at this time.
