Help no option to "execute" .desktop programs on right click menu in desktop mode.
Hello, I have been searching for a solution on the net for hours and wondered if anyone is able to help.
I`m a New owner of a steamdeck from the summer sale. Trying to install nonsteam games launcher and decky.

I have been following what seems to be an obvious way to install as per youtube videos such as this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jE1qD3yzrks
However when I get to the point of 1m:28s in the video and In desktop mode when I double-click the .desktop files, steam gives a pop-up asking which program to run, none of which make any sense. I do not get the option to "execute vs open" the file. My pop up window looks completely different and is asking me which program to open with or choose from marketplace. Grrrr!

When I try to right click the file instead as suggested in other videos here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esD_Rk3JZP4 at 1m:04s, there is no menu option to "execute" the file. I have opened up properties for the file and turned on "make it executable" but this makes no difference.

What am I doing wrong? I have not put in a SUDO password as I was told I don`t need to. I have turned on developer mode and it doesnt change. I have put the files on the desktop instead of downloads folder, all no difference. I`m pulling my hair out!

I reset to factory and reinstalled again and there was no change.

Thank you in advance for any possible solutions.

Possible solution I found on Reddit:

Open up a folder (in Dolphin). Main Menu -> Settings -> Configure Dolphin -> General -> Confirmations Check YES to "Ask for confirmation when: Executing scripts or desktop files" and you will have a choice again to execute or edit a .desktop file as you wish.

Having the same issue after a factory reset and the solution provided doesn't work because it was already set to ALWAYS. I toggled it on and back off and nothing.

.desktop files are plain text files. What is executed is determined by the contents of this file. Could you post the contents of this file? Maybe it sheds some light on this issue.
