This was the first two seconds of google searching :p
Don't cheap out and make sure to get a reputable brand of adaptor, that said, doesn't need to be expensive either :p
Aside from that, it will be a case of trial and error and build up experience :p
No mention of VRR, I know to be variable refresh rate
Also this stood out at me:
Non-bidirectional adapter - Can only be used on a DisplayPort on a computer. Cannot be used with devices such as gaming consoles or BluRay players.
Am thinking you might have to look a little further....
Hope this helps a bit
We wrote more about this feature in How HDMI 2.1 makes big-screen 4K PC gaming even more awesome. Game Mode VRR will also work over current cables (between two pieces of 2.1-compatible gear), though if you're trying to push greater-than-4K60 video, you'll need an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable.
Also:
VRR can work with HDMI 2.0 but only up to 60Hz.

You will not have HDMI 2.1 support because HDMI mafia chooses to be legal happy.

Fair enough, useful info
Some people reporting displayport alt mode or coverters working ok

I do not have these devices. You can check them with various setups.

I'm not the OP dude :)
It is NOT smoothest, just plug & play experience but it seems to be working.
I found that VRR must be enabled from Deck BEFORE starting game from quick access menu or otherwise VRR is grayed in game.
Many displays have only 45-48 Hz starting point for VRR & Freesync.
For me locking framerate is much better option.
On 144 Hz monitor I can choose 72, 48 and 36 framerates
On 120 Hz same values are 60, 40 and 30.
Currently testing with LG C3 evo model.
Edit: All testing with official Dock !!!

Whelp. I guess I have to look for displayport inputs for all of my display from now on.
I tested 3.60 preview version and at the same time official (latest ?) dock software was downloaded and installed.
3.60 was so buggy that i rewind it back to stable.
I dont know is reason this new dock software but using VRR seems to be just one toggle and it works (LG C3 evo). Tested also on my cheap samsung monitor. Yes, toggle on, and it is working.
Dock software is: 0.13.15.124
