Of course but a revised hardware that Valve did.

Not even. Good luck playing any game with an anti-cheat. Good luck with the 5 programs that work rofl.

Oh no! I can't play games that want kernel level anti-cheat within my AI and ad-filled OS? What will I do!?!

Seriously though, it's not every anti-cheat and I personally don't care. 99.9% of my gaming is single-player anyway.

You can’t even use basic apps. You gotta use knock off alternatives because nothing works with Linux. You can’t even play any multiplayer games that require anti-cheats. The only anti-cheat you can run is VAC. That’s because it’s garbage and non existent. It’s practically a placebo. You’re stuck playing 2D side scrollers and single player games. That’s only if it’s compatible, just like their crappy Steam Deck. SteamOS is garbage. I’ll take Windows any day. Good luck gaming on the small list of compatible games. Oh and say goodbye to anything remotely related to productivity or creativity. Lmao.

This illogical rant makes no sense.

I have been gaming on Linux for years without any issue, including multiplayer games. What even is a "basic app". I use apps all the time without any issues. I'm playing a game right now and using apps on my Linux PC as I type this.

Like I said, you can keep your kernel level anti-cheat spyware apps that conflict with each other on your AI bloated and ad-infested OS. I'm good. I'm looking forward to more Steam hardware and more SteamOS products.

It sounds like you are just ignorant about the whole situation and comment as if you have any authority.

Lose access to a handful of games that use malware as an anticheat.

Or not use the OS that is itself malware.

Such a hard choice. Maybe I'll choose to run the malware.

1) Most anti-cheats work under Linux. Only ones that don't are kernel level, but those are legitimately malware and not even remotely common outside of competitive esport slop.

2) The state of Windows only apps has become a subscription base to use any non commercial user as alpha testers. Having to use alternatives that don't treat their user base as guinea pigs isn't the L you think it is.
windows is going to get even worse. It already wants to eat every byte of ram on my computer.

https://www.msn.com/en-gb/money/technology/the-windows-president-wants-it-to-turn-into-an-agentic-os-for-some-reason/ar-AA1QsN2T?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=EdgeStart&cvid=6917fd65b6ac434c883c332f19f02844&ei=17

If you're anything like me, you're probably done with AI being forced into Windows. Well, turns out AI in Windows isn't done with you, as the Windows president has big plans to make your OS even more bloated.

Pavan Davuluri, the president of Windows and devices at Microsoft, recently took to X to share their feelings on the future of the OS (as spotted by Tom's Hardware). "Windows is evolving into an agentic OS, connecting devices, cloud, and AI to unlock intelligent productivity and secure work anywhere."

If that phrase reads to you like someone has thrown a dart at a board filled with LinkedIn buzzwords, you're not alone.

might be time to try another distro, I've still got 10 on dual for most games..
Doesn’t matter what you guys say. SteamOS is garbage. Linux is garbage. Windows is superior. Valve’s hardware also sucks and suffers massive amount of quality assurance issues. Better off getting a Windows PC and plugging it into a TV in your living room.
I already have a PC, Krip. I'm not the target market for the steam box, watch the space too, quite likely other companies will start producing their own boxes with steamOS or windows (if windows ever sorts out a UI for it)

as someone who has used windows since 3.11, -- I hate where it is now. I hate it. I hate that I need more RAM just to accommodate the windows bloat. Taks manager doesn't work properly anymore, alt-ctrl-del? NOPE, SIGN OUT...

hogging resources and bugging me with stupid crap while hiding all the easy to use menus from the old windows in that god awful UI they use now.

It’s a neat idea. Sadly, Valve is using the most incompatible OS. I own a Steam Deck and it sucks. The cube will suffer the same issues as the Deck. The only good thing is it will be a performance boost in comparison, but that’s it. Xbox will deliver something way better with their new console, which is rumoured to basically be a PC. After buying a Steam Deck and seeing the terrible quality in manufacturing and design. I’m sure the controller and the cube will suffer the same type of issues. I trust Microsoft more in terms of quality. As well as compatibility and freedom compared to Valve and Linux.
Well I can't speak to your experience, I played a bit on one and seemed fine. Wasn't for me, though (the device itself was a gift for someone else). I can tell you from that, thing first the person wanted to do with it after their first play through?

connect it to the TV.

Xbox are moving away from walled gardens too, it's not going to be about hardware IMO, but storefronts. SteamOS (I suppose you've had some trouble) a custom windows game mode, whatever else fills this space ____ all need to run the storefronts. Xbox/playstation will always sell. There may be a space in the market for this kind of device tho.

I will admit I don't have a ton of experience in Windows, but every time I use it I am reminded why I should avoid it at all costs. Microsoft does not care at all about the user experience. They are bent on getting you to use AI, they fill the OS with ads, Windows updates are constantly breaking things. The CEO of Microsoft even said that up to 30% of Microsoft code is written by AI, and it shows!

"I'd say maybe 20%, 30% of the code that is inside of our repos today and some of our projects are probably all written by software," Nadella said during a conversation before a live audience with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
