If they're struggling with this as is I'd be inclined to suggest that it would be more complex for them to try to do that than to actually reimage the Steam Deck per the recovery instructions which will repartition and format the NVMe storage.
My guess is that by "reimage" they are meaning cloning.
@OP try to provide some more specific details as to the process you are doing to reimage your Steam Deck.
For reference here is the Steam Deck Recovery Instructions
If you are doing this process then the reimage option will wipe everything on the target drive and will repartition it using 100% of its available space.
