As for transferring saves, the game doesn't use Steam cloud, if anything, it uses Uplay for cloud saves and that'll be the same whether you get it from the EGS or Steam. Meaning there's nothing to transfer.
Thank you for clarifying about the game saves, it’s great to know that my save data will still be there if I decide to rebuy the game on steam.
I’ll definitely take a look at Lutris and if that doesn’t go well I’ll probably end up rebuying the game on steam when it’s on sale.

It's plug 'n play. If you want to tinker, Lutris is better for tinkering.
Heroic launcher is what I was having problems with and I tried troubleshooting it but nothing worked, I tried lutris and it fixed the problem of watch dogs not being able to properly download
