What is the bloody password for sudo?!
I’m trying to install an application that requires me to sudo aptget or whatever the nerdy crud is we have to put into the ‘Konsole’. When I copy and paste the ridiculously long line of text into the Konsole I’m asked for the root pass.

I tried the gaming mode login.
I tried the password for my steam account.
Nope.

I googled it and apparently I am supposed to set a password by typing passwd in Konsole. I do this and it asks for the previously set password. I never have …

I googled that, and apparently I am supposed to be able to navigate to setting/users and set a password in there. Tried that, it asks me to confirm the change by entering the previously set password.

I forgot just how nerdy and unfriendly linux was.

What is going on, and why is there a password set already?!

Should be blank if you didn't set one. Btw I wouldn't set one as after setting one it will ask you to enter it when you do just about anything, for example every time you want to install a new program or change setting etc.

I had to end up doing a factory reset just to remove mine lol

Dude set a password and forgot about it, but linux is nerdy so it's linux's fault...

I haven't set a password in desktop mode. That's why I don't know what it is or why I'm being asked for one.

This is the first non-discover store app I've tried to install hence why it's throwing up the password request.

Just leave it blank and press enter!

Ughhhh!!

I just remembered when I first got the Deck I was excited to try out emulation and installed emudeck and emulationstation . Never got them working but must have set a password … ffffffffffkkkkkkkk

So my question now is do I have to factory reset my deck and start again?

What are you trying to download? SteamOS has mostly everything you want/need in the Discover store.

NordVPN

I haven't got my deck here it was sent in to rma, I think it was in the menu on the steam button. Sorry can't remember

There's another way to reset the password by booting into a different linux from an external usb / microsd drive.

I'm not sure it's easier than reimaging, but if you ave data you don't want to lose that's the better route.

Also don't use emudeck, that thing is a sledgehammer. I would suggest retrodeck.

Have you tried going to System settings, Users, change password?

Yes. If you try and change the password from there or even create a new user, then it asks for the main password.
