Steam Deck

Can I gift my steam deck to someone with my account on it?
I have almost 2K games so I'm sure somebody might find this thing a nice gift, like a children's hospital or something.

I just got the deck today and I cannot play my favorite game which is a major deal breaker since this is the only game I play and it helps me cope w/ depression. So that's why I don't want it.

How safe is it to gift this thing with my account on it and will I be able to play on my desktops at the same time the other person is playing?

Both those games seem like good experiences on the Steam Deck. Both those games are Deck verified. There's got to be something you're doing wrong/differently for there to be problems, or there's something wrong with your deck. Are other games having problems that shouldn't be? You might need to RMA your deck if so.

Some questions:
  • Which model Steam Deck do you have?
  • Are you running these games off SSD or SD card?
  • If it's SD card, what kind? Where did you buy it? Are other games running okay from it? (Lots of folks cheaping out on SD cards and getting fakes, then blaming problems on the Deck itself.)
  • What version of Proton are you using to run these games?
  • Have you tried forcing Proton Experimental?
  • What kind of settings are you using on these games?
  • Have you tried installing and using Proton-GE by installing ProtonUP from the discovery store in desktop mode?

If you truly want to get rid of it, you can sell or give away the Deck, but you cannot give away your account or the games therein.

You can not give away access to your account, no.

Section 1-C...

Your Account, including any information pertaining to it (e.g.: contact information, billing information, Account history and Subscriptions, etc.), is strictly personal. You may therefore not sell or charge others for the right to use your Account, or otherwise transfer your Account, nor may you sell, charge others for the right to use, or transfer any Subscriptions other than if and as expressly permitted by this Agreement (including any Subscription Terms or Rules of Use) or as otherwise specifically permitted by Valve.

Reformat the Deck before selling/giving it away.

If you want to give away your steam deck, you would have to reset it to factory specs thru settings first. This would remove your account info from the device, where the new owner could then login on it to their own account. That's the only safe way to give the device to someone else. You can find this option under settings-system then scroll down to bottom. Button at the bottom.

If you give your Deck away with your account on it, only one of you will be able to play a Steam game at a time. Steam will block more than one game being launched at the same time from different devices.

What if I go offline? To answer your other question, it's Remnant: From The Ashes and Gunfire Reborn.

That will work if the games don't have a 3rd party launcher or DRM that require some level of phone-home.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

There's nothing physically stopping you from doing whatever you want with the steam deck and whatever is on it, and there's no all-seeing eye who's gonna see everything and punish you for it.

You'd be surprised that they lock you and anyone else out of the account for less.

Unless someone slips up and says something, they'd have no way of determining who is logged into the account, especially on a portable system.

They don't need to know 'who'.. When they see the same login from two different IP's within a short time span, they have all the info they need.
