Steam Deck
Steam deck "other" storage, how do I get rid of it?
Didn't seem much as an issue a month ago since I barely install non-steam apps expect battle net and google chrome, but this is now becoming an issue when it takes 32 gb of storage and I don't even know the name of the location of it so I can delete it. I tried installing disk usage analyzer and deleting some of the games I previously installed that was still there in the folder, but it only took off a few gb of "other" storage. Is there any other way to find whats eating the storage? And will Valve ever fix this issue?

Some of the answers here are too straightforward, dismissive. For instance if you install some games to the SSD then insert an SD card with the same games on it then you try to delete the games off of the SD card to fix the doubled up data steam os will get confused and delete it from the SSD.. but leave behind a mass of ghost files..

I have 140gb taken up on my drive by "other" and I don't use desktop mode.. windows.. or do anything besides vanilla steam os. It's just a clump of remaining broken files I don't know how to see.. I would like to know how to clean that crap up

Something you can try is a Decky Plugin called Storage Cleaner:

ISSUE: unidentified “other” data located on main data disk eating up storage space.

PROBLEM: game “prefix”, cache, shader files (these should be removed automatically by uninstalling their specific Steam game, but sometimes aren’t) - these are automatically stored on your main data disk; proton files left behind by steam; failed non-working downloaded/installed apps left behind

SOLUTION: You will have to manually remove these unnecessary files by scanning your file directories by an app, moving them to Trash, and then emptying trash.

Another possible way of handling this is to manually move “other” files into your installed memory, which could have plenty of space. You can achieve that using this tool: https://github.com/CryoByte33/steam-deck-utilities

(try to find a guide)

So, there's really no official solution to this obvious problem?

I was moving a large game from internal to SD when the deck crashed. Now like 95% of the game is in 'Other' Which causes the SD card to be full so I can't continue copying the game over because when I try, it errors saying there is no room.
