My SteamDeck crashes like 10mins into the game consistently. But alot of people having the same problem. I just hope my Deck isn't broken XD.
Don't know about Horizon 5, but 4 is a major crash fest, even on Windows. (Playable - I've been playing it).
Likewise I've had crashes from Hogwarts. Similarly known problems even on Windows.
I'm beginning to feel this is 'PC Gaming'.
- 40Hz/40FPS limit (no exceptions)
- Low or Mid in-game setting or manual config for some games (never Higher unless it is a very old game like Half-Life 1 and similar)
- Allow Tearing ON (no exceptions)
- Half Rate Shading ON (almost no exception, only couple of game were not compatible with this)
- Thermal Power (TDP) Limit to 7W (almost no exception, but some games require more and some are fine with 4W)
- Scaling Filter FSR (no exceptions)
- FSP Sharpness 3-5 (highly depends on the game)
Just by following those rules I would get a crash maybe 3 times per month.Currently I am finishing Halo Master Chief Collection with remastered textures. Not a single crash.
FarCry 3,4 and 5 each crashed like maybe 3 time per whole main story.
Splinter Cell Blacklist crashed 2 times in total.
The main problem is that people heavily overestimate the performance of Steam Deck and try to play all games on High or even higher settings without limiting anything, pushing the Steam Deck to the power and thermal limits.
That is just wrong a usage of the device.
The ones that are fully supported need this? Because what is the sense of Valve saying to play these games at the recommended settings... . .
No exceptions, if you ask me.
Companies, Valve included, do tell what a customer wants to hear.
But please remind me, where did Valve say to play supported games at recommended settings on Steam Deck?
The recommended settings on games Steam page are for Desktops which usually have much better cooling, better power supply and a dedicated GPU. Sure it is still a PC but it is a very different one.
Imagine this, you have a Desktop and a Laptop.
On your Desktop you can play a game on ultra high with no issues.
On your Laptop, chances are slim to have the same performance like your Desktop. Unless your Desktop is very old or something.
Every player should adapt the game settings to the PC the game is played on !!!
And sometimes adapt the PC (OS settings, BIOS settings, some other Software) for the game.
No difference, it's a deck bug which feels like it's not freeing up resources and getting slower over time spent in the controller configuration page.
That is a wrong assumption.
