EA Anti-Cheat Compatibility.
I bought PVZ GW2 February 25th. Played it for 20+ hours before the game got updated to add EA's anti-cheat. No big deal until I realized my steam deck couldn't run the game. I googled it and apparently, EA added an anti-cheat that is supposed to stop all the cheaters, BUT it also removes support for windows 7, 8, and 8.1, as well as Linux and SteamOS. Steam didn't announce this on the store page of this game, and it is still currently marked as "Playable" on the steam deck, which isn't true. I asked steam 14 times for a refund, through help requests, and plain old refund requests. They said that since I had 2+ hours on the game they couldn't help me. They also said that EA may be able to help me with the issue. I was positive that they couldn't help me, and I was correct. After talking to two EA associates, they said they couldn't fix the problem, and couldn't issue me a refund since I bought the game through steam. I go back to steam and tell them this, and they just say sorry, you have too much playtime. So now that I can't receive any help with my situation, and can't be issued a refund I have come to ask the community. Is there any hope that Valve may update proton to work with EA's new anti-cheat? I am currently left with a useless game in my library and am desperate. Is there something I can maybe try or hope and prey that Valve can fix this?

The Steamworks partner (the game devs) must enable it for their game.

If it's their semi-recent Anti-Cheat that they have been using on FIFA, then it's probably unlikely. They put it on FIFA '23 so it's been around for a while and has never been able to work for any version of Linux. I have Madden '24 which has the same Anti-Cheat on it and I have to stream it from my Windows PC to play it on the Deck.

Ya thats my only way of playing PVZ GW2. I just hate how developers have to ruin their older games with DRMs and Anti-cheats.

I don't even play online. It just annoys the heck out of me that I cannot even play EA games offline. Though, since I know this, I just do not buy EA games anymore.

I don't like EA either, it just they own the PVZ franchise. PVZ was my childhood and it brings me so much nostalgia. I don't buy any other EA games because they are just out for money.

the new EA anti cheat works on a Kernel level and if you look at reports on protondb on Battlefield 2042, it actively refuses to work on Wine/Proton, writing in the error message "Wine not supported"

FWIW, kernel level when talking about Anti-Cheat isn't always a problem. EAC runs at the kernel level and there is a Linux counterpart. The kernel level Anti-Cheat for Helldivers 2 works at the kernel level and works fine on Linux.
