Steam Deck

Steam Deck

HDMI
I'm guessing the steam deck still has a lot of things that still need fixing but HDMI is the one thing that keeps bugging me. At this point I'm getting used to playing my deck in portable mode but once in a while I'd like to connect the deck to the dock so I can play a game on a bigger screen and use my tvs speakers.

But this does not work lol. Picture works, but it just does not want to use my tvs speakers at all. I'd restart the deck a few times but no luck. I've asked for help on this maybe a year ago but I couldn't fix it then. I'm asking again to see if there's anything new I can do to fix this problem.

did you change the audio in the settings to "external device?" thats what I have to do in game mode. In desktop mode, I just click on the volume icon in the tastbar and switch to the hdmi output.

Yuo tried both. In game mode, selecting external speakers still uses the decks speakers.
Never tried the desktop mode part but I tried that just now and the option to select HDMI isnt on there.

The deck is connected to the dock and for whatever reason just does not want to use the tvs speakers
Please could you give us the tv model? Are you using the official dock?

Ok I have similar TV. I solved deactivating on the "external device"settings the HDMI Deep Color. This option need special characteristics on the HDMI cable and also on the signal. WebOS is a bad OS imho
Try to turn off this option. Unplug the HDMI from the Dock and plugin Dock again.
On my LG tv the connection is now perfect. I also deactivated the HDR on the steam deck settings to avoid horrible colors...

I got this to work once. Then just for fun I decided to restart the deck to see if it would continue using the tvs speakers but nope. I tried disconnecting the HDMI cable and connecting it back to the dock. Restarting or shutting down the deck. Nothing is working. Still only using the decks speakers.

Very strange you can’t hear anything from the tv. I read about no signal but no audio sounds very strange

Add "konsole" as a non steam game.

Open konsole in game mode and make sure your external display is still plugged in.

wpctl status

Can you screenshot/print out that output? I wonder what it says.

Are TV's speakers Internal and not extended otherwise through the TV's audio settings? Sometimes how the audio data is passed from the SD is a root cause....

Or check for all active AND inactive physical AND virtual objects within Sound settings. Maybe something was muted pressing middle button or otherwise while in Desktop Mode while not resetting back to 100% Volume at reboot. (like it should? There's also a chance Virtual devices were removed recently. Which didn't help MY particular broken audio problems, although the Version Update notes a while back did state surround sound issues had been fixed.)

Yup. There internal. Though I am using a sound bar I think it's called. Thing is though, sometimes it works and it uses the whatever speakers my tv is using,k and sometimes it just does not want to use the tv speakers and always sticks with the decks speakers no matter what I do
