Trump Tariffs
Is there any indication from Valve on changes to the Steam Deck price based on the initial rounds of this trade war?

I was thinking about purchasing one (dependent on the Switch 2 hardware reveal), but I'm not sure I want to swallow a 20%+ increase so the rich can pay less in income taxes :steamsad:

OP has a legitimate question that ive wondered about myself. However this thread is a guaranteed shipshow, and more generally steam forums isnt the place for politics. There is like the entire rest of the internet for that, if you hadnt noticed. Remember, gaming is escapism.

"cool story bro moment" of the thread, lol.

maybe you misread the question, or assumed erroneously is not about politics or how economics related to that. for this topic, in this context, and relative to the words used by op (ie "trade war" and the concept of "rich = always evil"), is absurd to expect non-political and non-economy answers.

if you believe is possible to make an objective criticism or comment about what op asked, in such a way you cannot mention politics or economy, please share your example.

this is what the topic is actually about, and entertainment. is not actually about the tariffs, since he failed to mention things like brands, components, concrete stuff, and in a more objective fashion (ie, again, the "rich = auto-evil").

Everything will become more expensive. That includes the Deck and the Switch. If you want to get the Deck, do it now before the price inevitably rises. The Switch 2 will rather likely become more expensive before it's actually available.

Dictators don't care about normal term lengths. Your democracy is dying a bit more each day and will be long gone in four years.

fun fact, thats what the democratic party in usa was doing.
another fun fact, thats what globalist aristocrats are still trying do.
yet another fun fact: those who are actually pro-democracy, are also pro-freedom of speech, and pro-freedom of thought; which, another fun fact, was what classic liberals supported (previous to socialist oligarchs and despot pushers).

you seriously need to start digging in actual anti-communist, anti-socialist, etc, criticism and literature, so you can begin to understand why and how most of the media became corrupted, and how this has been going on for almost a century. USA maybe "won the ww2", but socialism actually hijacked the USA (not only through some of the nazis via paperclip, but through communist brainwashed enthusiasts since cold war and before).

funny your username is gonzo, since actual gonzo journalists were usually anti-establishment, and certainly (and actually) anti-authoritarian.

bonus fun fact: im not american, but i can understand why what trump is doing is more positive than negative. at least compared to what the "(pseudo)democratic party" did, and many previous republicans associated with "globalism".
If you're not from the US, it's far beyond me how you can't see and classify what's going on in the US right now. That's not uncommon for a forum related to gaming though.

Errr... Tariff arrive to Steam because the majority of the internet became escapism. At a certain point, escapism becomes counterproductive and you will ironically experience it at the escapism.

Even if R+5 comments doesn't understand the realities of the world, you are still affected by the guy mis read of the current situation.

Ummmm.... Define positive. Defined negative..... Trade agreements are multi generational battles. It is easier to break them to create them. Since you probably do not have a understanding with fiat currency either, I would hold off on the globalization word.

thats not how tariffs work, and if you could follow the logic behind them, you would be able to understand that they are not only beneficial for american products and companies, but also consumers, rather that just "the rich".

unfair tariffs, among related shenanigans, are what allows those that actually abuse the system to become richer and force people to spend more for less, which is what was happening before trump and his reciprocal tariffs.

you are just copy+pasta the bs from the establishment, who are the actual "bad rich people", rather than trying to think a bit more objectively in patterns and consequences. properly implemented tariffs are a good way to actually limit abuses from the "bad rich people". Assuming everyone "rich" is auto-bad, is kinda reductionist and nazi-like or communist-like (same fam, different cosmetics).

While my line of work is in a different field, my graduate degree work was in economics. You don’t know what you’re talking about.

There are no winners in a trade war, just survivors. Until the US can magically produce all of the necessary raw commodities it needs for a non-existent manufacturing base (that will take decades to build, to say nothing of the massive labor retraining and skill-building to operate these new industries), prices will rise while the decreasing demand abroad will have an outsized negative effect on the economy (the Keynesian multiplier for exogenous demand is a huge boon for the US economy). Only fools are willing to gamble their futures for the concept of a plan with no end in sight.

My question was on whether Valve had intimated any potential price/availability changes in the short-term to the Steam Deck. If you happen to have actual information, please let me know.
