Is there any indication from Valve on changes to the Steam Deck price based on the initial rounds of this trade war?

I was thinking about purchasing one (dependent on the Switch 2 hardware reveal), but I'm not sure I want to swallow a 20%+ increase so the rich can pay less in income taxes

That might hold true for a few months, but as the prices for parts and labor rise (tariffs are economically inflationary) I doubt Valve will want to be lose increasing amounts of money however long this lasts.

Also, depending on the degree of inflation, prices may never recover as the market changes in response.

Okay folks. Buckle up. Time to dispel the magical thinking going on in here...because there is some seriously delusional thinking going on in this.

Let's take a look at some actual facts:

1. "The Steam Deck is manufactured by Valve Corporation in partnership with various global manufacturing partners. The device is assembled in Taiwan, with components sourced from Japan, South Korea, and Malaysia. However, the final assembly and testing process take place in China." ( source[www.gameslearningsociety.org] )

2. The effective tariff rate for things coming into the US from China is now about 54%. ( source [www.nbcnews.com] ) (There was already a 20% tariff on Chinese goods coming into the US from the beginning of the term. When you add on the new extra 34% you get 54%) so that leads us to...

3. Back of the napkin math indicates that we could be looking at anywhere from a $200-$300 price jump. Off the top of my head, 54% of 649 (price of the top tier SD) is something like, 350? Add that to the price of the top tier steam deck and you get about $1000. Even IF they shipped them back to a country with a lesser tariff rate, say Japan...you're still looking at a 46% tariff on it shipping to the US. Plus there's the added cost of moving them to that final shipping point.

These tariffs take effect on the 10th of April. Once the existing stock in distribution centers dries up, a cost change will happen. If you think Valve is going to eat the cost of this kind of tariff pricing for each and every Steam Deck, I want whatever it is you're imbibing cause that is some seriously good stuff.

The plan is to eliminate income tax for anyone making less than $150,000. Some companies also have started transitioning to making US bound goods within the US to avoid tariffs.
Unless you’re looking to buy imported goods heavily or exclusively, the odds are great that you’ll hold onto more money in the long run.

Which will cause inflation.... Income taxes or taxes in general pushes down inflation.

More money does not mean you have more value. Whatever money you have will be eaten by inflation.

Btw, they are doing tax cuts on the wealthy too and I am basing my comment on those tax cuts. Those tax cuts looks awful.

Nintendo has been milking the Switch for years. They were reluctant to release a new revision even thou the hardware is crap. Now, we have a tariff happy president and it just blew up in Nintendo faces.

thats not how tariffs work, and if you could follow the logic behind them, you would be able to understand that they are not only beneficial for american products and companies, but also consumers, rather that just "the rich".

unfair tariffs, among related shenanigans, are what allows those that actually abuse the system to become richer and force people to spend more for less, which is what was happening before trump and his reciprocal tariffs.
