Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Remote desktop on deck?
One of my most used features on desktop is chrome remote desktop, an app on my phone that lets me use my PC at anytime (as long as it's awake). Is there a good free Linux alternative, or does valve have any plans to integrate a feature like this directly into the mobile steam app?

There are few options in the Discover store. One of those is Thincast:

It does, but you have to trick it to get to the desktop. That's not what it's made for... Best to use a tool for what it's made for....

you dont have to trick it, just have the deck in desktop mode, launch the steam link app on you phone, then connect to your deck, boom, remote desktop. its how my friend helps me troubleshoot things.

I used Steam Link for years before the Deck existed. By default, it doesn't provide access to thr Desktop unless it believes something has launched to stream:

okay but im telling you im using it RIGHT NOW to stream my DESKTOP to my PROJECTOR.

i expected that link to somehow bolster your argument, maybe a valve dev post explaining the steam link software, but its just you saying the same thing to a different person. that doesnt really change anything. 🤨

I didnt need to do any extra setup or "tricking" the system into thinking anything. you can just connect to it. I dont have ANYTHING running other than the minimized steam client. I do it every day, just to read these forums on my living room wall lol

i have hard evidence of both myself and my fried in turkey connecting to my deck's desktop with steam link, no extra program being launched.

I'm not lying here, don't yo believe me? lol

I'm not saying you are lying. I'm saying your experience is not typical. Therefore telling others it will work for them, may not provide the same results as that's not how it was intended to be used. It's best to something that does what it's supposed to do.

have you tried connecting to the steam deck through steam link?

with no games running?

can you provide documentation that its explicitly not designed for desktop use, or are you going based off memory?
