Using Cheat Engine
I am running cheat engine while playing a single player game. When I switch to Cheat Engine from the running game, it’s frozen and won’t respond. I’m a noob when it comes to this stuff, and would appreciate a step by step tutorial on how to use Cheat Engine while playing a game. Note: I am not using a trainer, just need to adjust values

cheat engine is a windows program. you need GameConqueror. search for the flatpak in terminal or discover in desktop mode
Iv’e seen many videos on YouTube that show that it works fine on Steam OS.

I appreciate your input, but I think I am going to see if anyone else has information that might be more helpful

dude, ive tried what you are trying already. Im telling you GameConqueror=cheat engine for linux. you will have a far easier time getting something linux native to work.

I switched from windows to linux 3 years ago and had to track down linux alternatives for most of my software.

I would much rather use linux than anything else. I like to have full ownership and control over my things. linux does that for me very well.

I searched YouTube for any setup or guide videos for Game Conqueror and Steam Deck and can’t find any. Remember my knowledge in installing and operating something unfamiliar is very limited without an in depth guide

Here is a link to the video that i was using for a guide

First, I don't use this stuff so I cannot say what works and what doesn't. Next, that video could be out of date, not sure. However, here is another guide to try:

I use trainers they are more reliable on the steam deck especially fling trainers

I’ll try this method and let you know if it works

It doesn’t work. When I switch to Cheat Engine from game, it shows the Cheat Engine App, but it’s frozen and I can’t do anything

It doesn’t work. When I launch the game, it goes directly to the Cheat Engine installer, and is frozen.

Because of it's very nature wine/proton containerizes applications/games in their own little sandbox environments but this also means that getting them to read/write into all the other little sandboxes (ie. other games) can be quite problematic.

@N already told you the solution
