Bottles vs Lutris
First of all what do you prefer and why?

Second i have a question about lutris: I installed a gog game. First i could pick an install folder for that game. So when the download was complete i could pick another folder for the Installation…..but the folder from before couldnt be selected anymore or lets say the folder didnt show up….

Any explanation for that?
Greetings

depends entirely on the game. older windows titles work better on lutris, it also does great with managing emulators, although i prefer emudeck for that.

bottles is best for running non-game software in my experience. things like audio/video editing, music programs like itune or winamp or aimp, random niche windows stuff that isnt supported anymore, etc.

Lutris, but i don't understand your question about "installation folder".

You just setup a seperate directory structure for your lutris installed games and then either

1. play them using lutris
2. launch the installed .exe (from lutris install) through proton - steam as a seperate non steam .exe

Tbh i use lutris to just install windows software most of the time, if possible i still prefer to have everything grouped and launched from steam using proton, even though lutris can access the same proton version(s) that steam uses.

So there are 2 steps when you install a gog game on lutris. 1 is you can select a folder for the download and once the Download is finished there is another option where you can pick the install. But when i choose a folder Location on the second part the other folder where i put the Download in doesnt Show up anymore

"the folder for the download" means simply the location where the executable is located, whether it's a .msi or .exe is irrelevant. It's only in the second step where you actually select the installation location.

Once the installation is actually done you still need to configure lutris so it points to the installed game's .exe, not to the installation setup files originally if you want to run the game from lutris directly.

Just lookup some youtube videos, it's not rocket science

Or, you do the installation in lutris. And then you run the installed game's .exe from steam using proton.
