bottles is best for running non-game software in my experience. things like audio/video editing, music programs like itune or winamp or aimp, random niche windows stuff that isnt supported anymore, etc.
You just setup a seperate directory structure for your lutris installed games and then either
1. play them using lutris
2. launch the installed .exe (from lutris install) through proton - steam as a seperate non steam .exe
Tbh i use lutris to just install windows software most of the time, if possible i still prefer to have everything grouped and launched from steam using proton, even though lutris can access the same proton version(s) that steam uses.
"the folder for the download" means simply the location where the executable is located, whether it's a .msi or .exe is irrelevant. It's only in the second step where you actually select the installation location.
Once the installation is actually done you still need to configure lutris so it points to the installed game's .exe, not to the installation setup files originally if you want to run the game from lutris directly.
Just lookup some youtube videos, it's not rocket science
Or, you do the installation in lutris. And then you run the installed game's .exe from steam using proton.
