Help needed: Left Stick Click/L3 button stopped working

Hey Everyone,

I’ve had my Steam Deck for less than a year and absolutely love it, but I recently ran into an issue while playing Fallen Order. The L3 button (the Left Stick click) isn’t working.

I tested it in the settings menu, and pressing L3 doesn’t register at all. To dig a little deeper, I tried other games and found something really bizarre in Fallout: New Vegas. As anyone who’s played the game knows, pressing L3 should make your character crouch. In my case, though, the L3 function seems to have been mapped to the Steam button. Pressing L3 does nothing, but when I hit the Steam button, my character crouches, while the Steam menu pops up at the same time.

For the record, my Steam Deck has never been dropped or subjected to any rough conditions, so I’m at a loss here.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Any tips or advice would be much appreciated!

Get a replacement stick at ifixit or get the hall effect from gulikit.

Thanks for the suggestion. Can I please ask if the same thing happened to you as well? Do you know what possibly might be the reason?

Bro if you're still under warranty DO NOT replace it yourself using ifixit replacement parts, just contact steam support and ask for a repair under warranty.
