Slow Download Speeds
My steam deck's download speeds are horrendously slow. I've tried every fix I've seen online. Turn off power saving mode, cap the download speed to 10000000, changing the desktop wifi settings to 1.1.1.1 or 4.4.4.4 or 8.8.8.8 for the DNS, I even tried those lines to put in the console. Nothing works. My speeds can't go any higher than like 10 mbps. Is there anything else I can try? It's driving my mad that it takes years to download something as small as a shader cache update

Nothing worked -> hasn't done even the slightest amount of actual network analysis.

Changing DNS will not help your download speeds in any way, only faster web browsing due to name translation *IF the default provided ones by your ISP are crap.

The first thing you need to do is test whether it's related to your wireless network setup.

So either create a mobile hotspot, or test the connection either at a friend's/family's house to see if the situation is the same.

No need to be a jerk about it. I have a steam deck for a reason, I'm not exactly super tech savvy. I go on Google and search for a solution, and none of them work. I have a Verizon internet plan. Originally it was a 300 mbps plan, recently got upgraded to 500 because I called and complained so many times. Not exactly sure what else to do, I've exhausted all the options I have. It might be the network, it might be my location, idk. I don't remember having this problem in the previous place I've lived with the same (300 mbps) internet plan. At this point, I've done all I can with my limited knowledge, so that's why I'm asking here

A few things...

Downloading is fairly device intensive. If you were to see your resources on a PC, they are pretty utilized during a Steam download/unpack. I think there is some amount of throttling on the Deck because of this...

Something to test. Go into Desktop Mode on the Deck. Open up a browser and got to Speedtest.net. Check your speeds.

Do the same thing with a cellphone (don't use the app, use the browser). Compare speeds and see if they are comparable. If they are, then you are likely experiencing a the OS throttling. If there is a wide difference, then there might be something else going on.

Also, I don't think you mentioned it. LCD or OLED?

I have an LCD model, average download speed maxes at like 7 to 10 mbps

On speedtest.net: phone was at 363, steam deck was a whopping 1 mbps. I even tried reseting my router, same result. Idk what to do

Assuming your phone was using wifi, that at least would narrow it down to your Deck and not your wifi.

Can you see if your Deck is connecting via 2.4GHz or 5GHz?

I tried my phone's Hotspot out of curiosity and I got 46 mbps which stuns me. I guess it's a problem with Verizon which I figured. I guess I'm calling their customer service again after Christmas

Phone was on wifi. How do I check the GHz?

Found it, never mind. It's 2.4

I suspect the connection to your phone was likely 5Ghz.

Yeah seems so. I called Verizon, and I had them open a 5 GHz channel or something, connected my deck to it, and now it's getting 300 mbps on speedtest.net. Seems like it's better now. Thank you for the help, I never would've thought of that
