Newb can't get roms working
Using emudeck. Put roms in rom folders. 99.9% of them are not .bios but were the only files present. When launching psx games through duckstation it attempts to launch games in list, but after a short black screen it returns to previous screen and does nothing more. Same goes for dreamcast. Using multiple platforms but haven't gotten any of the ones I tried (I tried half a dozen different ones across emulators and different platform roms ie psx ps3 dreamcast n64). Duckstation in one instance told me the game listed had no .bios file associated so could not be run. I got my things from trusted source so I know it's not some bs or scam. Am I doing something wrong?

I followed this cheat sheet. Also see the extra info on ps3 bios locations.

I'll give it a shot. Most of the roms seem to be .cue, and put in the correct folders (ie psx in rom folder labeled psx, dreamcast in DC, etc.) Some that had like 15 files in the folder got the entire roms root folder in there. Could that be the issue? For example if "Game" folder has 12 files in it, and I drop entire "Game" folder in home>emulation>psx>roms will it prevent the emulator from reading the .cue .bin or .bios file? I have dozens of roms with dozens of files in them across half a dozen platforms. Going through all of it on my deck (no pc) will take some time and I'd rather avoid doing it if it's unnecessary.

Update: I've managed to get all my 360, 64, cube, dreamcast, and psp roms to run, but no psx, ps2, or ps3 roms will work. I've tried duckstation, retroarch, emustation. In every instance it fails. Usually saying there is no .bios file.

DuckStation is only for PS1 games. You need PCSX2 for PS2 games

the actual "roms" are inside those ".cue" files: ".cue" is just another disk image format, similar to ".iso". if your program cannot read them, the you need to figure out how to convert those into ".iso" or anything that is compatible.

because without the "bios" file, they cannot run. to legally use it, you need to own the (correct version of a) console (ie american iso for american games; european iso for european versions of games).

that is a special file that must be extracted from the console and placed in a special folder or directory of your program, which you will then need to configure to confirm its there. most emulators explain this, if they need a bios file to make games run. some emulators dont need them, so you can use your own copy of a physical game with those, without doing anything else. most people lack the tools and knowledge to extract them, so they use "backup copies" made by other users (which is a legal grey area, as long as you own the same console).

currently, nintendo is trying to block emulators from using bios files, or similar files needed to start the games, and by doing so, they argue is to stop piracy because for them emulators are always about piracy, even when they could sell legal copies of their roms to help preservation of classic games and digital media.

and that, is because they dont want to help: to them, as many other devs that think similar to them, that makes people feel less interested in buying new (usually overpriced) stuff.

you need to read a bit "about pages" relative to the software you want to use, to learn what to expect, and how to configure it. or at least check video tutorials.
