fan control under other distros?
I want to be able to boost the fan speed to max while playing under other distro (i have arch linux installed)

the problem that i'm facing is that fan speed is quite slow and suddenly the speed goes to max the fps drops close to 0 for a few seconds (maybe minutes) and then everything goes back to "normal". and this repeats over and over and over.....again

i use to have the same issue under steamos too. initially i thought that maybe somehow its a problem with memory usage going over the 16gb limit but the entire memory usage (game+rest of os) does not go above 8-10 gb.

this issue is annoying. i havent tried steamos in a few months now because its annoying with all those flatpaks.

so i really need a program that can boost fan speed to max.

btw i also noticed that sometimes the fan stays quiet until the deck will force shutdown. something is definitely wrong with the sensors/fan

i wonder if i need to install a specific driver in other distros.

Sounds like it is overheating/throttling rather than a ram usage issue.
So, you knew how to install/use a different distro but cant figure out how to install/use a fan management app?

Add Valve's repos and install their software.

sensors does not detect the fan with official kernel. i found a "repo" with deck packages and installed the kernel from there and i can see the fan in sensors with that one.
i was curios if there is a patch for the official kernel to enable sensors to detect the fan

I wouldn't add random repos you find like that but I dug through my history and found someone who has done what you are trying to do (and more):

anyway using the kernel on that repo i can see the fan speed but pwmconfig does not detect it so its useless anyway

There is also fan control software. I'd advise installing everything suggested in that thread, it's all tailor made for the deck after all.
