Help running a program as "admin"
I'm trying to run a windows program on my steam deck and I'm getting an error that states "failed checking at CreateToolhelp32Snapshot" I reached out to the dev and they told me this is due to "limited operating system privileges". I only have 1 user on my steamdeck and the account type is 'Administrator'. So I don't understand how to give this program the access it needs to function.

As far as I know, everything run through Proton is given admin rights to begin with. Mind you, it only has access to its own prefix rather than the entire OS, but as far as the program is concerned it should have admin rights. Accounts on the Deck, or in the underlying Linux installation wouldn't affect the rights given to a program in Proton.

You might consider finding out where this folder is supposed to exist, and then manually create it in the associated prefix directly.

Pretty sure that’s right. When installing for example runtimes or directX when you first start a game, you will never be asked for admin rights.

Good to know that proton should be giving admin rights I don't however think this issue is due to a missing folder in the prefix

Proton can't run everything. There are a LOT of things that just won't run through Proton. It would probably help if you provide the name of the program and folks may be able to provide some other insight.
