At which point why not just get a pc desk top instead? Or laptop?

Next, you might check the TV. Some TVs/monitors have Hertz limits based on ports.

Docks vary and quoted specs are often not very accurate so if you can try a different dock, do so.
The Deck is perfectly capable of 4k60 for desktop and light loads.
And it does support a 4k60 signal.
I can confirm Valve's dock also does 4k 60hz, however I find at that resolution/refresh rate I get some audio crackling. My TV is a Sony X90J which supports right up to 4K 120hz, so I suspect it's either a bad HDMI cable or just the dock itself. I don't have any experience with JSAUX docks but figured you wouldn't mind the info.
The official dock has/had some issues with audio crackling/distortion. If you haven't yet, there is a new firmware update for the Dock once you've updated your Steam Deck to 3.4.4 so you could try to update your Steam Deck and then connect it to your Dock and it should prompt you to do a firmware update
Thanks. I took a look and my deck is on 3.4.4. My dock currently has firmware 0.13.15.108 but it still does the crackling thing. There hasn't been a newer firmware update yet has there?
I don't recall the firmware version but I'll try to remember to check when I get home tonight to confirm if that is the most recent one.
What i did is simply change the overal resolution in the steam deck setting:
Settings > Display > Resolution
I set it to 1920x1080@120 (the 120 standing voor refresh rate).
This worked for me, and seems a logical fix for most? I hope so anyway. GL
