Steam Deck

Game updates/downloads bricked my 1tb micro SD card.
So I got a Micro Center 1TB and I was having issues with a update for Scorn, the sysem suddenly said it would take over a day to install the update. I tried pausing and unpausing it then restarted the system. Then it said the downlod data was not found. Then I tried installing other game updates. Tekken 7 wanted to update but I only got to 100 mb. So I restarted the system again. No matter how many times I hit resume, it didn't resume. So I uninstalled it and tried to reinstall the game and it said my micro sd card didn't have enough memory. So I rebooted again, same thing. I shut the system off pulled the micro SD card out of the system, turned the system back on, reinserted the card and now it just straight up won't read it. All this headache because Valve couldn't be bothered to engineer the system around 2242 drives. 512GB is NOT enough storage and Micro SD cards seem to be fragile. I'm just at a loss. I blew $100 on this tiny chip for this to happen. And from what I've read, the Steam Deck only plays nice with Samsung cards.

There are 2TB 2230 drives out there. I'm rocking 1TB myself. While they are harder to get Sabrent will shortly be launching Rocket 2230 drives in capacities up to 1TB with 2TB coming later.

You bought cheap card, thrown massive amount of writes it was never designed for at it and it failed. It shouldn't have but it was predictable that it will. Replace it under warranty and move on.

They had to design it for it because it's a 1TB. I didn't even fill the entire thing. I still had 100GB unused on the card. From what I've read on forums, Sandisks are no better. And yeah you can get a 2tb 2230, but it's not readily available on the market and you have to find some guy on some forum to buy one for what's basically the cost of the base Steam Deck.

The fact that the card has 1TB of space does not mean it was designed for high ammount of writes. Writing few pictures or videos is not as intensive and does not produce the same amount of heat as downloading and extracting games. That being said, like I wrote it should have not failed but the fact it did has nothing to do with the Deck.

The fact that 2230 drives are not readily available is exactly why I wrote that Sabrent is just now launching 2230 drives that will be readily available to customers. Including 2TB model at a later date.

I'm using this card & haven't had any issues:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09B1HYPR9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

There'es nothing wrong with Samsung sd card you just have to look at the usage scenario & buy the appropriate speed rating for that. The cheapest price is not always the best solution. And it is possible as many have found to get fake cards advertised as real ones on amazon which are usually the ones that have the most issues like this.

Samsung isnt the only option. Im using a 512gb PNY card in my deck since May. Before that it was in my switch for over 2years almost always near full and has been formatted a total of 3 times now by the deck with no issues.

I was just complaining about the slow download speeds. I researched for hours and looked like as long as the card had a 2 on it it would work. been using samsung evo with no issues for 3 months.

My Micro Center 256 card works in my Steam Deck. It's not just Samsung. Just bring it back, they should be able to exchange it.
