Music in background?
Is there a way to play mp3 music or maybe streaming like spotify? For some games it would be nice

You can start multiple programs in Deck gaming mode. Also there is built-in mp3 music player in Steam.

Yeah if you go to desktop mode and go to the Discover store you can download Spotify, then you can open Steam and add it as a non-Steam game. Then when you're back in DeckUI and you have it open you can easily swap between your game and Spotify. I'm deffo doing that when mine arrives.

you can also learn to use the console to find and install more programs using "yay" and the "aur" (arch user repositories), or just search linux versions of the programs you want. remember steam os v3 is an arch based os, like manjaro, so anything that works in manjaro should also work in it. ie:

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/spotify

https://flutterawesome.com/a-lightweight-free-spotify-desktop-client-built-using-flutter/

https://github.com/KRTirtho/spotube/releases/download/v1.0.1/Spotube-linux-x86_64.AppImage

tip:
if you can find the AppImage version of a program, use that one: you wont need to change system files, or have issues with file dependencies. after downloading an appimage file, you will need to "activate it" using "chmod a+x -program-". After that is optional to intergate it or just launch the program directly from the appimage.

Also, -avoid- as much as possible using "flatpak" versions:
their approach may be a bit similar to appimages, but the do need to be installed in a specific location which you cant change (appimages can be "installed" in an external drive, because they are like "portable apps"), and usually eat disk space you wont like to waste. they may work more or less well in ubuntu-based systems, but in arch-based its not usually the best option.

if you want a simple but efficient music player, check clementine. it can display album artwork, and consumes very little ram. imo, theres no need to add it to steam as a "non-steam game", unless you want to create special shortcuts with the steam controller menu.

For mp3s stored locally on your deck, Steam has a built in music player.

In what world is flatpak being "non-portable" a problem for arch? In what world AUR would be optimal for newbies looking just to install apps already found in flathub?

This is from Arch Wiki:
Warning: AUR packages are user-produced content. These PKGBUILDs are completely unofficial and have not been thoroughly vetted. Any use of the provided files is at your own risk.

AUR packages are scripts to compile the packages locally, and waiting for it to finish is definitely not fun.
