Steam Deck Slow download speeds to SD card.
So yeah as the title suggests.
I'm using a 1TB SanDisk Extreme SD card (marketed as 160mbps read, 90mbps write on the packaging) it's A2 rated and V30.

If I download with internal storage selected as default, I'm getting 50 to 70mbps download speeds.

If I select the SD card as the target I'm lucky to get 10.

I've tried wired via a dock and makes no difference. The SD card is genuine one, direct from SanDisk and they even replaced it for me, issue remains.

The Steam Deck is definitely utilising the transfer speeds as a workaround I can just download to internal storage and then move to the SD card at full speed.

Games play from the SD card ok too, with no real noticable difference in access speeds.

Just seems odd, ah the individual parts are all working ok, just not in unison. Anyone else having this issue? Interested to see if it's perhaps the card type or even the size that's a common denominator.

it's fine, i dont self care as long as you get the game on SD card also slow? no Xbox One has ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ slow download speed

The sd card is a slower speed than your internal m2 drive. If you want it installed faster you could DL it to the m2 then use the decks ability to move the game to sd card.

I have that same card and can maintain 60mb sec the entire download. There’s definitely something going on with yours

This is what's so confusing.
The card is fine, I can download to it full speed on PC.

The steam deck is fine I can write to the card from internal storage at full speed.

It's just if I download to it directly as a default location is throttled. I wondered if it were a compatibility issue with A2 cards or larger storage sizes, that's why I posted. But if yours is okay i dunno then.

Seems like it's not an isolated case from other people's posts.

All settings are fine too, no limits in place, dev mode wifi power management off.

Appreciate the replies looking at other posts seems it's not just me experiencing the issue.

Just to confirm, network and wifi is fine, steam deck is fine downloading to internal.

Downloading to SD card is fine when used in laptop or PC.

Transfer speeds to and from Steam deck internal storage are full speed too.

Hopefully a cause and solution will be identified and patched soon as it's definitely not a HW issue. 🤞

Would the 1TB extreme sd card work with steam deck? It’s fairly cheap but wasn’t sure?

Not had an issue using a Samsung Pro Plus but one way is to download to the SSD then move the files. Valve have made the moving process as simple as a couple of clicks.

Love the way you obviously didn't even read the OP where I clearly stated:
"as a workaround I can just download to internal storage and then move to the SD card at full speed."

Anyway, it's a known issue fairly well documented, if anyone's here for a link, there's a decent article here...
Fixed it for me.
