But steamOS seems pretty hardcoded to the deck account, and it almost looks like you'd have to set up the login manager because all of the options related to it in system settings are gone.
A while back, I removed my Steam account but had a PIN to log in. The PIN appears to tied to the 'deck' similarly to as if it were a Screensaver lock -- and the PIN is not the 'deck's password -- you must set that for 'sudo' usage.
So, after getting past the PIN, I could add an account or drop to desktop mode via Power to become the 'deck' user.
*IF* you do add another user:
!. you'll need to login via Konsole or SSH to become that user (if you don't use sudo)
2. Theoretically, you should be able to 'ssh -X newacct@steamdeck' if you've 'systemctl enable --now sshd'. This would allow you to open X11 apps on another computer -- pretty standard Linux/Unix stuff. But do not expect to play any games.
3. The only way to switch users in Desktop GUI ... I've not heard of one yet. When you log out of X11 desktop mode you drop back into Wayland Game Mode. The only real way to do that is to re-image your Steam Deck with a different OS. It is just an PC after all.
Cheers, retro.
I ask for similar problem (https://steamcommunity.com/app/1675200/discussions/0/3461596283592315351/ and https://www.gamingonlinux.com/forum/topic/5374/) but it seems not so easy to add (and use) linux/kde user or even just change the "deck" user name.
I'm sure, in the future, some users (or valve ...) will work on this :)
