Feedback: would love better wifi control at hotels
i have fallen in love with my deck at hotels. i travel constantly for a living and the deck allows me to use my library for practically all the games i would've loved to play prior to the deck. but i keep running into issues with hotel wifi networks where they want you to sign in a pop up screen with room/last name stuff. a majority of my hotels have worked well, but some will be the type to not require a sign in, but with send a pop up screen to say youre signed in, or will be a normal sign in screen(as i test with my phone) but will not go through for some reason. this has also been weird because i will go to desktop mode to use the browser there, but it will never pop up with the portal and will act as though i've already signed in. any others with experience/advice are appreciated.

Are you sure this popup is required?

Yes. This is a common practice for hotels to track users on their network.

as replied above, yes in platforms other than the deck, typically with a prompt in the appropriate applications to alert you to the fact that a second step is needed

Ah, I see. I missed a half-sentence and assumed you were talking about the "yup, signed in" pop up but I see there's also sign-in prompts missing.

I'm confused as to what the actual issue is...

Is the issue that the experience connecting to the same hotel wifi is different between your phone and your Deck, or that the experience of connecting to different hotel's wifi differs as you go to different hotels (which should be expected)?

the issue is sign in portals are missing at select hotels

Something toc check. The way the hotels do this is by intercepting traffic to the internet and then they force the device to their login portal. Sometimes it will only work with HTTP or HTTPS but not necessarily both. When I travel, when it doesn't work with one, I usually ping a site with the other and it allows the hotel system to pop up their dialog.

Now, if the same URL works on a phone but not the Steam Deck for the same hotel, then that would be something to investigate.
