well it doesn't support it for the built-in display, maybe it does for external stuff

It does support it, but the built-in display does not. So when docked to an external display which supports FreeSync via HDMI 2.0 or DisplayPort 1.4 then it should be able to be used (via desktop, Gamescope I don't believe supports VRR)

thats bad for 120hz 4k support lol

The Steam Deck isn't going to be getting anywhere close to 120fps at 4K. lol

so thats why i asked for it, i didnt mentioned the built in screen... i mean you could possibly get on 4k card game 120fps maybe and tearing in moving camera... its just an dumb example but it could be like that what ive gonna expected from the first answer... so if it supports it on my FHD display its ok. If it wouldnt i would think of it to cancel my order from 16th july LOL.

Currently it is only supported on the desktop mode or if you reinstall with Windows. I don't believe it is supported using Gamescope nor is resolution scaling / modification which has been one complaint regarding the Deck. When connected to a 4K display in the game mode the Gamescope display manager will automatically switch to the displays default resolution (4K) with no ability to choose to output at another, lower, resolution for games that are too demanding to run decently on the APU at 4K. This is something that is on the software side of things so it could change in the future and Valve could end up adding support for VRR and changing the output resolution via Gamescope.

I'd suggest heading over to The Phawx's YouTube channel and watching his Steam Deck videos and keeping an eye on out for new videos as he's been doing a very good job at providing very good information on various Steam Deck use cases.

He recently did a video for an external portable VRR display (albeit a very limited VRR range), however, he doesn't specifically demonstrate the functionality on SteamOS 3.0 in desktop mode. That video would be a good place to post a comment and see if he can answer / demo the functionality

Oh I know the phawx, he did a great job on his vids but i can say i maybe forgot that he mentioned it maybe.. I hope gamescope is getting it in the future. as long as they do it, Im happy, no matter when but they should :D hope you hear me valve!

there is A LOT of other threads asking Valve to implement an output resolution picker for external screens in Gaming Mode

while FSR is awesome to make heavy games lighter on a given target resolution, it does cost more performance (than a normal dumb scaling) to use FSR to convert 540p to 1080p or 4K than to convert 540p to 720p as is the intended use case for the built-in screen

people then want FSR to make 540p to 720p/1080p (depending on how heavy the game is) and dumb scaler to make 720p/1080p to 1080p/4K to make the most of the hardware and of the output resolution...

...plus right now using 4k outputs makes heavy games unplayable in that mode, unless you swap to a different screen with lower resolution
