New-ish to linux... how do I check free hard drive space?
I found system->system monitor, and I see a rough free space on my disk there... is there a better normal way to check this?

Thanks!

Well, the fastest way is via the terminal via the
df -h
command. There is also a graphical tool called KDiskFree which displays exactly the same info but then in a GUI.

Dolphin displays the available disk space at the bottom of the window and gives a good indication how much space is available in that specific location.

Thank! I was hoping to avoid the command line since I"m still using the virtual keyboard. But since it's right at the bottom of the folder view, that works great, thanks!

Open the file explorer and look at the bottom right.

Maybe this should be a feature request to Valve to the Deck UI to show storage meter on drive(s) just like the batter meter. If there's a Preference settings possible either:
* show one DF percentage for selected mounted storage
* show more than one DF percentage for more then one mounted storage - and check box which ones
* show combined DF percents of mounted storage combined free space
(whatever in Valve's UI experience would be best to implement for us customers)

Found something fun!
Steam button -> Settings -> (scroll waaaay down) Storage - it shows a nice bar graph where it breaks down games, dlc, updates, other, free space.

So there is a really nice, easy way to check at a glance!

there are other options like QDirStat

https://apprepo.de/appimage/qdirstat

an appimage file means "one file one app": you just need to make the file executable by right clicking and choosing the option in properties. the file may be heavy, but you dont need to integrate it to the os, and doesnt need to be installed. you can run it from an external drive, so you dont need to use internal space.

the version of the program is a bit old, but it works.

you can also check Baobab and Filelight. i ignore if there are appimage versions of them

Baobab/Disk Usage Analyzer[flathub.org] is available as a flatpak so is the best option right now on steam deck if you want more detail than the built in disk usage display options.

The appimage of qdirstat is unofficial and not kept up to date with the latest version as the author of qdirstat dislikes the idea of portable app packages[github.com] such as flatpak, appimage or snap.

A flatpak version of filelight is coming[github.com] but hasn’t been released yet.

What about Steam's own disk usage overview?

@Fayte already mentioned it... or is there another one somewhere else?
